"It was interesting. I went a little farther than I expected to..."
How I did it: I told my friends and parents that I was cutting down on meat. First I stopped eating pork; there are a plethora of reasons why pork creeps me out. Then after a while I stopped eating beef, then poultry. As you can tell, I went past flexitarianism straight to vegetarianism. But, I was a flexitarian for six months before I cut out meat entirely. I agree with the other review of this goal that I read: once you just start doing it, it's easy.
Lessons & tips: Just don't eat meat every time you have the opportunity to. If you think about it, there'll always be another day to eat steak or Thanksgiving turkey or whatever. You can refrain from eating it one day, with the knowledge that you can have it some other day. That's the beauty of flexitarianism; you don't completely eliminate meat, so you don't have to deprive yourself permanently of anything. Just wait a few days and spread out your meat intake, and it'll get easier, to the point of being natural, really quickly.
Resources: A vegan friend and a flexitarian friend, and a lot of random books and websites about vegetarianism and flexitarianism, and veggie recipes.
