How I did it: i just completed the 2009 CN tower stair climb for WWF.
Before the climb i took the stairs as often as i could, did plenty of cardio work and tried to keep my legs strong. i made sure to stretch and drink lots of water before the climb to be sure id be ok.
When i started i thought i would stop every 10 flights so i wouldnt get too tired but when i started i took it slow and before i knew it i was at the 30th flight. things got a little difficult when i got to the 90th flight, my legs were aching, but i took short breaks when i felt i needed it and pushed myself to the finish line.
I completed the climb in 30minutes and 58 seconds. i thought it would have taken me at least 40 minutes if not more so im really hapy to have made it in that time.
I feel great now but im sure that tomorrow ill definatley be feeling it. Read how I did it… 2 years ago
How I did it: I don't think anything can prepare you for the first time climbing the CN tower. I did lots of cardio but regardless of what I did, I was FILLED with fear. I thought my lungs were going to collapse or I would surely die.
It was too late though - my hubby, family and friends had joined me and we had a team of 6 - I couldn't back out.
I put no expectations on myself other than to finish the climb. It took me just under an hour - 54 minutes to be exact and everyone was waiting for me at the top (most took only 30 minutes or less).
We were one of the first groups on that morning so it was very EMPTY. Once everyone had passed me, I had a breakdown at the sixth flight. I wanted to turn around, I totally thought I couldn't do it.
BUT I did :-) One or two flights at a time. People of all ages passed me (I passed a few too) but I eventually made it up, alive and in one piece.
When I saw everyone's faces at the top, I couldn't help but tear up - you're so full of adrenaline and emotion!
I've never been an athlete so this was a big deal for me. In some ways, it was easier and harder than I thought.
I'm glad I did it! I probably will never do it again but I'm glad it got ticked off my list! Read how I did it… 2 years ago
