The history, the beauty…I must see this place before I die
How I did it: I went to Greece with my family for summer holidays. It's just an ideal place for a vacation: the blue sea, warm weather, delicious food... You just forget about your worries. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I have one of those Big Fat Greek Families so going to Greece was a bit of a given. I went and did the family visiting (it was good except I probably gained innumerable pounds because they stuff you at lunch, and then you are with someone else for dinner and they stuff you again), island hopping (the ferries are great fun), and historic item observing. We actually went in the winter, so that had it's pros and cons. Pros: less people, lowe… Read how I did it…

I also started a savings account and plan to go the senior year after high school (next summer). I have distant family there who desperately want to meet me. I feel so strongly connected to the country (it’s a big portion of my ancestry) even though I’ve never been.
I started a savings account specifically for our trip to Greece. It feels so good to be saving towards it—-even if its only $1 a month. I make myself at least do that, sometimes its $3 or $5, just whatever I can sneak in there without affecting my ability to pay bills. So far we have about $25 saved towards a cruise to Greece!! Even better is that its sitting there gaining interest! Yeah!
I’ve always had a thing for Greek and Roman culture. It began with the mythology (of course, as it does for everyone) in about the fourth grade. It was the area of history I most enjoyed in school with the exception of Japan’s history. I didn’t really ever pursue those studies in college where I took a year of Attic Greek, a year of Latin, and several classics courses in art and literature as electives towards my English degree.
If I ever get the chance to go, I want to see the amphitheater at Epidaurus and the Acropolis of Athens. Beyond that…every museum I can squeak into during that trip. I love Hellenistic sculpture.
It sucks that I will have to go to Berlin, Germany to see the Altar of Pergammon which is quite possibly in my top five works of art. Damn you archeological politics. XD This is why I love buildings. They don’t move…only fall down, which is quite the tragedy. I hope to one day see the leaning tower before it too crumbles into history.
rattaya is excited about the Christmas tree!
I’m hoping we will go this May!!!!! Crossing my fingers!
I have no idea why… but i’ve always wanted to go. I see it as taking time for me; at some point in my life!

Oh, Athens. How I long for you. The spirits of Socrates and Plato whisper to me in the middle of the night while I’m dreaming, beckoning me to come. The Temple of Zeus. Amphiaraion. Cape Sounion. Schinias Beach. Wine bars. Authentic local cuisine. I want to leave a piece of my soul there forever and take a piece of hers in return.
