My dishwasher sometimes stops working, spilling out water over my kitchen floor. It only ever does this when I’m out or sleeping though. When I’m listening intently to the sounds it’s making – trying to detect a failure somewhere in a rincing cycle, stupid machine keeps plowing on happily. I never manage to catch it in the act, the sneeky thing.

with my parents’ dishwasher it was impossible not to achieve this goal, because as wonderful and functional as it was, it was getting old and clunky, and could be heard over even the noisiest of tv programs.
now in my new new york apartment, i have to actually press my ear to the kitchen bench to work out whether the dishwasher is still running.
and that means I’m a really good husband and daddy, putting the baby to bed and hanging around the house all by myself on a Saturday night. I’m sort of working, sort of cleaning, and sort of goofing off. But I’m all here, and that’s what’s important.
The dishwasher is making a truly intriguing sound.
Sara, on the other hand gets to take a truly well deserved break and party like the eighteen weeks pregnant woman she is!
