Which is better… larger agencies or independent agents? Does anyone have any insight on this?
She’s in LA. I met her at the Santa Barbara Writers Conference. We’ve corresponded a lot and had a great lunch meeting about the books. Right now I’m rewriting them for stronger conflict and when she likes what she sees we’ll sign the paperwork!
The co-op who i have been in contact with finally invited me in for an interview and i was very optimistic. Unfortunately they decide i was too much like a girl the had just signed so looks like i am back to square one :-(

it may seem silly but recently I’ve been doing some reading up on the bussiness aspect of writing and two professionals have said that they had more problems with agents then without them, so I got to thinking.
What if I just try on my own first and see where that gets me. Once I get that worked out and see how I do I’ll try the next step. Which is that I know somebody who is willing to try and serve this purpose for me. They are not an agent exactly, just somebody who can act as a buffer. So that a publisher doesn’t look at my work and see that it is self submitted and consider it not worth notice without somebody representing me.
I thought I’d give that a try.

I think I need to at least try to see if this can happen for me. I’ve recently done a months where I did 31 short stories in 31 days, I have two novels soon to be 4, and three scripts soon to be 5, that need some editing and then an agent to pick out some of the best stuff and get me noticed.
That’s not to mention five book proposals for non-fiction, an idea for a gallery showing based on a theme in visual arts. And a few other things.
I can create fine I just don’t know how to move beyond that part.
Sent out some more letters, inspired by my boyfriend who is signing with an agent tomorrow :-D. We’ll see what happens. In the meantime I really should brush up on my monologues!
I am waiting for an actor’s co-op agency to get back to me…fingers crossed.
Also sending out some more letters to agents who came to see my showcase recently and seeing if they might consider taking me on.
I am now freelancing (supposedly) with FOUR agencies, none of whom have gotten me any auditions. They are not top agencies (and in fact two are managers). I’m a little bummed but want to keep looking for better people to work with. I took some time off this summer and need to get back in the game!
