I’d have to say I’m pretty fortunate, so this probably leaves a large pool of people to help.
I’d really like to work for the Red Cross some day so I’m thinking about interning there next summer. I’d probably have to drive to Philly, but that’s alright.
I wish there was more stuff around here. Or rather, more stuff I’m interested in. I hate kids so I’m not really into like, tutoring. I’d rather help out at like a soup kitchen or a women’s shelter, something like that.

    Children 3 years ago

A Chinese Proverb says “A child’s life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark”. During my almost-2-year work in UNICEF Turkey Girls’ Education Campaign, I hope I could leave a mark. I was thinking that I owe those girls who are not given their right to education as I am fortunate enough to go to school and have education. I appreciate that I had the opportunity and wish every human being be fortunate as me.

Yesterday I helped distributing christmas aid at the Salvation Army! and there were such a lot of great smiling people! It is so nice to be able to see that people really benefit from what I’m a part of! and this afternoon i’m going singing to collect money for the SA!

this is really what i wanna do with my life, help the people who cannot help themeslves. especially children, since they have no chance at to help themselves at all!! i also believe than when one has the chance, of helping another human being, on should do so!! it doesn’t have to anything like mother theresa, if i can help more than one person, at this point, i would be satisfied!

It doesn't take much. 4 years ago

On my birthday two years ago I was driving home from Riverside, CA to Palmdale, CA. I knew I wouldn’t get home in time to do my laundry so I had brought it with me. I don’t know the name of the town I stopped in on my way home. But I did stop to do my laundry at this corner liquor store that had a laundry next door. A man asked for my change. But he said “Excuse me sir. But could I have any spare nickles, dimes, or pennies you have.” He was polite and thoughtful. He knew I needed all the quarters I had to do laundry. I gave him all the spare change (sans quarters) I had. Then I told him to save it I would be right back. I went into the liquor store and bought him two burritos and a 40 ounce Mickey’s. Now some will say I shouldn’t encourage drinking in the homeless. But until you or I have lived on the street we should not judge too harshly. So since I was in such a good mood, due to his politeness, I bought these items for him. When you do something nice for someone it should be what they consider nice, not what you think is appropriate. So I feed him and gave him some liquid refreshments which made him thankful. I then drove him up this hill to his hiding spot and stocked it with water and snacks I keep in the car in case I break down in the middle of the desert. Oh, I also got my laundry done and I got to know him and his fall from grace. But since he did not give me permission to relate it to you I won’t.

    Hurricane Katrina, 4 years ago

a rare category 5 storm is about to hit the gulf coast. Over a half a million people have been evacuated out of New Orleans so the news says.

Tonight my heart truly goes out to the people living along the gulf coast, tomorrow’s imminent storm is very ominous. I feel so helpless in a situation like this; I wish there was something more I could do than just pray. But for now, that will have to suffice – and so I pray. I pray for all of you folks that will be going through a very terrifying and tragic event. I pray that you and all your loved ones make it through this in tact and healthy.

Sending out thoughts and prayers to all of you.

Loaves and Fishes 4 years ago

I’m learning how to best do this. Right now I’m volunteering for the Loaves and Fishes Advocacy Network. I find it challenging to be empathetic without internalizing the other person’s struggles. My husband is worried I will lose proper balance and allow others’ stresses and challenges become my own.
