My experience there, I must say, was much better than James Dean’s in Rebel Without a Cause. I’m thinking he’s never going back to Griffith Park Observatory.

    Edit: Here’s a video.

I would be an idiot not to attend one of the lectures and check out the universe from a scientific perspective. Every Tuesday at the Planetarium there they have a discussion. I better make it at least once this year then I will make this goal COMPLETE!

Passport To The Universe... 3 years ago

I went Saturday morning to the first Sky Show, Passport to the Universe, which was narrated by Tom Hanks. Kind of like the Universe for Beginners. We go on a journey from the Earth, to the planets of the Solar System, to the Milky Way Galaxy, to the Virgo Supercluster, finally ending up at the edges of the known Universe. Nice visuals, lots of pics from Hubble, which if anyone in DC had any sense, would be saved to keep giving us these marvelous visual images forever. Or at least until we can build the ships that will take us to these enchanting places in person. The last part of the presentation was Hanks reminding us that “you, me, everybody – we are starstuff. We are in the universe and the universe is in us. In the deepest sense, we are citizens of the cosmos.” Seeing it in print, it looks hokey and corny, but it was just what I needed to hear and be reminded of on Saturday morning.

Before that was a presentation about stars visible in our area in the night sky during winter. I learned (again) how to find the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper. But the best part was seeing what the sky would look like if it was completely dark (unlike at my residence, where such is hidden by the glow of lights from the nearby WalMart parking lot).

Planetarium at night 4 years ago

interesting show! Projector was playing, it was a good time. I think I expected more crazy visuals but it was pretty good. The show beforehand was kind of bad though, there was this whole star treky thing… Took a little tour of the science museum, which wasn’t as good as when I was a kid :(

I must say that I had remembered everythign as being bigger… but I think it was at least 10 years ago since I went.

Theres this “planetarium at night” show we’ve been meaning to see. There are bands playing live and its a less stars more crazy laser show type thing.
