What’s really motivating me are two factors. First, being in one’s early forties is murder on the eyes. If the print size is very small I feel eye strain. Second, I need to update my appearance so I can post a new photo on dating sites!
I began the process two months ago by spending some time on Aetna’s website. First I reaquainted myself with their policies. Then I looked for eyeglass shops in Chinatown that take my insurance.
I’ve already done two eyeglass scouting trips down there. These were useful because I learned that the best styles for me are plastic with built in nosepads. This was a bit of a pleasant surprise for me, for I like the strong dramatic look of plastic frames. For the longest time I had thought that the most flattering style for me would be wireframe glasses. This was what two eyeglass professionals told me years ago, because of my prescription requirements and my lack of a nose bridge. Maybe back then plastic frames with nosepads were really impossible to find.
Need to make one more trip (this time without my mother and sister) to further narrow down the frames that I like and flatter me. After that I have to make a fourth trip with my sister so she can look at me so we can see what works.
I still really want photochromatic/Transitions lenses. My folks are helping me with the costs (I’m unemployed right now), so it’s a bit of a challenge to convince them that it is a necessary feature for me. I don’t want to buy one pair of regular glasses and one pair of sunglasses.

I called, made an appointment, rescheduled twice, went to the appointment, had an exam, forked over a lot of cash, and got a new pair of glasses that I love. I’m wearing them right now. <3

Endrina - crap rarely falls from clear skies
I have had my present glasses for 6 years now. My eye sight hasn’t changed much so I don’t really need new glasses – but I want new glasses. I don’t feel comfortable in the ones I have now, but haven’t either been able to find a pair I like.

It’s been 8 years since I knew I needed glasses but I never would wear them in school. After I got out of school I lost them and it was always to expensive to get new ones. I finally did this year, square chic and they make the whole world gorgeous.

My glasses now are always at a funny angle on my face and are all scratched up. I went and priced a new pair and found the perfect frames! now all I need is the cash.

Now that I get my medical from the VA I get an eye exam and a new pair of glasses every two years. I’ve usually had good luck with them. Having said that, I’m off tomorrow to see what’s wrong with the pair I got only a month ago: almost impossible to read, can’t read product labels, have to take them off to see my computer screen. I’m sure they were ground wrong and will have to be reordered. It’s not like going to whatever doctor you want and choosing from a much larger selection but it doesn’t cost me $250 either.
