Currently at positive 7K, so technically this goal is done. I was really helped out by the stock market’s upturn, but I will take it!

    Net: -$85,500, Assets: $288,515, Debt: $374,015 4 months ago

Getting there slowly but surely… I bought a couple bicycles and a rifle, so that didn’t help anything. Also I was unemployed for a week. I’ve got to start working harder on this.

-10K! Partially helped by the slight upturn in the stock market over the past few weeks, but I will take it!

    Net: -$88,900, Assets: $290,200, Debt: $379,100 8 months ago

I have another goal to get out of debt, but realized this would be a better metric. So now I have both goals.

Today, I have $-379,100 in debt, and $290,200 (estimate) in assets. The large discrepency is mostly due to student loans and lost home equity. Pretty depressing to see, but I think I can make it in a couple of years.

    I am currently at -16K.

Now on track to happen around the end of July 20 months ago

If I can avoid any major purchases, this should happen around the end of July. I have to say, putting money away straight out of my paycheck by direct deposit helped a lot.

    Soon...very soon 2 years ago

I am on track to reach this goal at the beginning of next year. And it gets a little easier every day. Step one was really figuring out what I could live without…and ending the bad habit of buying things I didn’t really need.

I know everyone would “like” to have a Positive Net Worth, but most people never make it a serious goal. I am about $140k in the hole between my home and cars. A few weeks ago I was laid off. It was a bit unexpected considering I was thought of by many as being the best in my department. They (being a large corporation) used length of service as the factor for the layoff. But I am doing fine financially. This even made me reconsider all of my spending habits and I realized how long I will be paying for all of my crap. Once I start a new job, I hope that my wife and I can keep up this thoughtful handling of money.
