This is a long way off but as far out of shape as I am I will need all 9 months. This is a local triathlon that I think is achievable (the biggest hills for running/biking will be the bridges!) Nice thing about training in FL is that there really is no winter.
So far I have been mostly bicycling. My longest ride so far was 50 miles. I am checking on my 12 mile point when riding and I am averaging only a bit over 15 MPH at that point. I really like the longer distance bicycle rides (want to ride a century some day too) and will probably keep those up as they are helping me to lose weight and will change over to just 12 mile rides for the month or so leading up to the race.
I bought a pair of running shoes. I went to a specialized store where the actually measure the pressure points on your foot and then videotape you running in different shoes to see how different shoes change your stride. So far I have started with 1 mile runs. I am more worn out after a lone mile running than 30 miles on the bike!
My pool is a bit too small for really practicing swimming but it has kept me getting into the water. I will run the heater for the winter and focus much of my final few months prior to the event on swimming in the gulf.
Anyway, that is my plan. Don’t know if I am close or not. One of the weirdest things that is making me nervous is not knowing the mechanics of a race. Things like what to wear, how to transition, what to have at the transition, should I have water on my bike or do they have water along the way… Stuff like that.

I was getting a little lazy right before I went on vacation; I just need a break from everything, exercise too I guess.
Now I’m back home and back in the gym. I still have 2 months to train if I’m to hit a September triathalon. Today I biked 5 miles, but it was a split of 3 miles and then 2 miles later. I have quite a ways to go to be able to ride 15 miles straight…

I am working on this! I’ve taken swim lessons, starting running and am now going to start working on the biking part. This has been a great way to get in all around shape and a great motivator to exercise. My first sprint marathon will be at the end of august.

Over the last year and a half I’ve gone from couch potato to a health and fitness maniac. Finding out I had diabetes probably was the big catalyst for this.
Now a year and a half in I’ve decided I want to go to the “next level”. Right now in my mind this means completing a triathlon.
Rather than just plunging in I did a little basic research. I am planning to do a “Sprint triathlon” consisting of a 500 yard swim, 15 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile run. There are several occurring in this area in August and September and this should give me plenty of time to train.

I have the bike and I like to run, it is just the swimming that has me concerned. I’m going to conquer that though and find me a Sprint distance to complete early this fall if able.

So far I’ve signed up for 2 triathalons this summer. No training, just going to try for it.

The triathlon I’m competing in has a suggested monthly training schedule, which is GREAT.
There are lots of websites for triathlon training, but I’m still trying to sort through them all.
And I’m still looking for a good (free) website with a training log.
Any suggestions?

So I’ve picked my triathalon – http://www.triforthecure-denver.com/
A woman in the office I work with is doing it too.
Now I just need to figure out how to train for this thing.
