I personally know English & Mandarin (as first & second language in school), Hokkien(mother tongue), Cantonese(from my cantonese neighbour & watching cantonese movies or shows), some French(when studying in France), Swedish(when living in Sweden), and some Malay.
Anyway, I’m not the only one here who knows a few languages, most singaporeans grow up understanding a few of them, hence that makes most of us here either biligual, if not trilingual or qualingual.
The only language that I get to use it frequently here in Singapore is English..but the ones I’m really interested in and need to brush up more on would be my French and Swedish. Especially French, which I find it’s not only a useful language to learn, but also a language that sounds almost like singing :D
Swedish might not be as popular as French but it’s also a fascinating language that sounds a bit like mixed of Tamil and Italian to me :) Sounds pretty strange to me when I first heard it here in Singapore :P .. It’s actually just like Mandarin (Chinese) where most Scanadiavian countries would understand the language pretty well.
