It comes when you least want it 20 months ago

A friend of mine from High School reconnected with me threw texts. We saw eachother on and off in College but we are just friends. For a few months we lost touch, I was transferring to a new school and he had a girlfriend to tend to. So about three months ago I get a random text message from him saying he is back at the Air Force base and is going to be deployed in a few months to go to Iraq. We talk to eachother a few times a week by phone and text. And I have really started to become attached to him. He is one of the best friends I have ever had. Besides that he has given me great advice and listens to me, and remembers stuff I have told him. I have more of a functional friendship with someone thousands of miles away more than I do with people who I see constantly. He misses home and wants to go back to college. He really has opened my eyes to how lucky I am to have the oppertunity to go to school, live my life freely, and be happy. I can’t wait until he can come home before he is deployed.

I would say... 2 years ago

That I enjoyed today. But for me, this goal is tied to my religious goals. Appreciating this day to me means thanking God for the ability to walk this Earth in the sunlight and apologizing for getting so wrapped up in garbage that I don’t remember to stop and enjoy the natural beauties that come with Spring.

maximum appreciation 3 years ago

my parents taught me to do this, i have always tried to fully implement this, yet at 26 it is still something i have difficulties with it.

i don’t believe things happen by mistake. imho, the idea of ANYTHING being random, is totally contrived.

computers can’t create truely random numbers. i’m an OG Geek, so take my word for it (or look it up), computer’s “random” numbers are based on controlled systems.

dice thrown on a table aren’t even random. the orientation of the hand, density of the air, substance and texture of the table, etc. determine where the dice falls. it’s apparently random but in reality, defiantly not random.

nothing is random.

so since everything we know about happens for a good reason. i believe everything in our lives happens for a good reason.

i believe that adversities always improve us, sometimes we just don’t recognize it. i’m trying to appreciate these more, it seems very difficult to separate myself from my emotions in some situations…that said, i’ve done it before (ignored anger, hate, etc) and i know i can do it more often if i try hard enough.

i also have problems appreciating things “post ownership”. for example, i had a beautiful bike once and i appreciated it. one day the bike was stolen. i got so bitter, it was a long time before i appriciated that i’d owned such a wonderful bike and was truely be ok with the fact that it was taken from me. ...it’s a silly example from a long time ago, but i still do this today and i want to change that.

anywayz, i’m going for maximum appreciation. i want to be appreciative for everything at all times, and i won’t settle for anything less. the more i appreciate things the happier i become, so i’m going all out!
