Gwen is trying to reverse loneliness.
It’s over. I delivered it. My school had 22 valedictorians. (We recognize everyone with 4.0s all the way through high school.) So we each had one minute to speak. It doesn’t seem impressive, but I really liked my speech. Instead of talking about myself, I asked some diverse people to pick someone in our class they were thankful for and give a reason. I got some really great responses so I just read them. I think it went well. It was nice to recognize people who weren’t expecting it.

After sitting in our chairs, I anxiously watched the program. I’m not sure I heard much of what was said before my speech. The speaker before me, I’m positive I heard nothing that came out of his mouth.
Walking up there, was the scariest thing ever. I was shaking, my heart was beating way too fast, and I was terrified. I screwed up at the beginning (One of my favorite parts, too!), but everyone said they had no idea when I told them. I didn’t choke up until I addressed our fallen classmates. I like to think I controlled myself rather well, though…
After graduation, everyone who talked to me said I was full of confidence. While I was up there, I thought I was going to pee my pants. :P

I worked as hard as I could and made sure to not comprimise, and to make sure it represented my personality, i got a really positive response and it was very exciting, anyone is nominated for this type of thing it is a true honor, it will help you realize who you are in a way.

I have been given this task on the basis that I am most involved within my highschool and perform most of the public speaking. I was most certainly honoured to receive this task but at the same time have now been rendered lost. I cannot think back to what highschool means. Perhaps I have already moved on? regardless, I MUST write this speech and inspire others. I would appreiciate some tips or ideas to use for such a speech…

I’m the first in my family to give the Valedictory speech and no one really knows what I am supposed to talk about. The girl that got it last year put in a whole lot of religious crap in it, but I am by no means religious, so that won’t work for me.

and i’m writing my speech right now. It’s exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. I guess the most challenging parts are a) trying to block out of my mind everything people at school have been telling me they expect (it’s going to be so funny, oh i’m going to cry, you are so inspirational, etc.) and b) avoiding the cliches (a new chapter in our lives, overused quotations, etc.).
I just want to write something that will make people smile. I guess we’ll see how it goes.
