Every time I think I can mark this off something happens to stop me. I flew twice last week and I really disliked it. I’m pretty small (5 feet tall) but I still felt wedged into the tiny seat with no where to put my feet. The flights were both around 2 hours long yet I felt every minute in the air and every turbulent bump. Logically I understand that a crash is unlikely but that doesn’t help in mid air. I also know that I want to travel and not limit myself so why both worrying??

Since I have to fly to get to my company’s home office, it’s hard to stay afraid. I say a prayer before we take off and know that I’m in safe hands. The people flying the plane want to keep living, too!
Las Vegas, London & Los Angeles – all 5 hour (plus) flights & I was able to deal. Is it the mechanical worries, thoughts of terrorism or just the claustrophobia combined with boredom that has kept me driving whenever possible? I do understand that I’m no safer with my feet on the ground. Thanks for the cheers and support. I am going to keep working on this because I refuse to be limited by fear.
I found that getting used to the idea that the plane has to achieve 150mph+ on the ground to take off was a big help in not being nervous – I was never actually phobic, but now I enjoy flying – though nobody likes turbulence:) How often in your life do you otherwise travel at over 100mph?
