I went to the arts and crafts festival today, pretty much broke, but content to look at all the beautiful creations being sold. I was so psyched to find a spindle for sale at one of the booths for a few bucks and they threw in a bit of roving to get me started. I’m giddy.
Now I just have to scrape my pennies together to get a book.

All my roving, the drop spindle and the printed instructions are all in one place now. A nice new project box.

Yikes!! 3 years ago

OK, so I got a drop spindle, I got some roving (thank you Isela!!!) and I gave it a whirl. (Oops, no pun intended!!) It turned out really thick, so I know I let too much of the roving through at a time. Thankfully, she sent me enough roving to try it again, and again! LOL So I will try again soon. Right now I’m getting ready to start a new job, plus get some Christmas gifts made and finish a wedding gift. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed and not ready to try something new again. :-)

I thought this was really hard to do and I tried several times. What did it for me was switching to a Turkish Spindle. I had read Priscilla Gibson Roberts’s book on High Whorl spindles and was “sold” but I couldn’t get the darn things to work for me. I visited Reflection Farm and the proprietress showed me the Turkish Spindle. At first try I could do it. Now I’m spinning about 6 ounces of fleece into my first yarn. I hope to make it into socks. It is very fun to do this!
