    committing 10 months ago

i’ve had this goal for a long time, both here on 43things and just in life, really. i’ve given up coke completely a few times – but that’s only ever lasted for days. i’ve never committed to it properly and fully. i’ve decided that, in light of my first overseas trip, i’m going to give up coke for good starting from tomorrow. i know i can do this and i know that it will help me a lot.

Tired Of Putting Junk Into My Body 12 months ago

I use to only drink sodas. I knew it was an addiction. An addiction to the fizz.
Until one day I realized even though I HATED the taste of water,I had to give up the soda.
I drank nothing but water from then on. For the first few days I think I sipped on only one bottle of watter.lol I soon realized that wasn’t working.
So now when I take a drink from my bottle of water, I put my finger or thumb a little below the water level and tell myself that I have to drink that much before I close the cap. And it has worked! I soon did not mind the taste of water. I even some times craved the taste of water! I am very proud of myself for doing this. I did not think i would be able to, but I did!!

since I got 5 fillings in the last 5 weeks, I need to drink less fizzy drinks and more water. And less fruit juice as it is full of sugar.

drinking more water and less soda 2 years ago

I can go several days without drinking soda and drink more water. I carry a bottle of water around with me all the time and when I get hungry or want soda I just take a swallow of water. Right now I am drinking a soda and I hate it but we can’t deny our impulses all the time, you just need to know to do it in moderation.

I had to do it gradually 2 years ago

I went from drinking two 20 oz regular cokes per day to drinking one 20 oz diet coke per day, then I would drink one coke zero per day and finally I just quit and subtituted with water. Now I don’t keep any soft drinks in my house and when I go to the convenience store I just go straight for the water, Gatorade or juice. It was difficult b/c of the killer headaches I had the first few days but I managed to fight them off with a cup of strong coffee. Good luck to all!

    worth it 2 years ago

I loved Coca Cola so much, was addicted, but am proud to say that I haven’t touched it in 9 weeks, and counting. Sometimes it’s very tempting, but trust me it’s worth it. Water has no sugar and no calories, and it quenches your thirst so much better, plus it’s free! I’m also finding that my skin has improved.

Former Pepsi-Cola Addict 2 years ago

How many gallons a day was it? I can hardly remember. I imbibed pepsi cola like mother’s milk, but for much longer. When I was young I had 12 ounces of pepsi on Saturday night when the other college students were drinking beer.

As I got older and a little more prosperous, I would buy the 64 ounce bottles. Super-sized myself right into a dreadful case of diabetes. I have had no coke/pepsi for 9 years but the diabetes lingers.

Water is the thing—pure, crisp water. If you are weaning yourself from Cola, try carbonated water for the hit or spritz of the little bubble….

    Good luck to everyone!

I used to drink about a pint of coke a day when I was working in the bar, then I decided to give up and switched to soda water with fresh lime in it – tastes great.
I haven’t had a coke in about three months now – result!
Plus, most pubs give soda water away free so I save money as well.

No more soda! 3 years ago

At first, I stopped drinking soda, and had a goal of 60 ounces of water every day. Once I hit that for a few months, I up’d the goal to 80 oz. Now I’m at 100oz! I feel great and my over all health is so much better… the only time I drink soda is once in a while with a little vodka or rum – teehee
