Sure it’s a crackpot thing that’s probably insulting to those who do the real ministry work, but I’m ordering my $6 credentials and insisting a couple specific people call me Reverend for it. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll even perform a ceremony.
How to get ordained
How I did it: Went to the themonastery-dot-org and correctly filled out my name and address. At that point I got my printout, which looks ugly - so you need to shop for ministry stuff, and guess what? They have a shop right there on the site! I only needed to get my credential certificate and wallet card so I shelled out $20 for those optionals plus shipping. My certificate came in just a couple days (still waiting for the wallet card).
If I was totally serious I could have gotten "Ministry in a Box", Doctor of Divinity or one of other certifications like "Minister of Rock n' Roll".
Lessons & tips: It's up to your state if they wanna accept this ordination for legal ceremonies (mine really doesn't). If I ever did perform a ceremony, I would have the couple actually get a legal marriage done at city hall the day before - just to be safe.

and i just got booked for my first wedding ceremony! august of 2007. i’m so excited to be able to make this happen for ari and michelle. i’m so glad i did this.
You should definitely get ordained. It’s great and it was really cool to be the “minister” at my friends wedding, and they said it was much more personal having a friend at the end of the aisle than a stranger that they’d met a few days before.
i am now a reverend of the universal life church, an honorary clergy member of the spiritual humanist church and a fully fledged jedi….go me :D
it was two people i knew, and an incredibly beautiful, unique, non-traditional (thank goddess!) ceremony.
