bring back my notebook from the dead

Too expensive to replace 2 years ago

And getting a new one isn’t as expensive as I thought it’d be. But I’ll have to go through the hassle of setting up the entire machine with all my favourite tools and apps. Perhaps I should take this opportunity and document everything down, publish something called “Top 10 apps to have on your Thinkpad”.. or something along those tunes.

Jinxed? 2 years ago

Lightning fried the ethernet port on my home PC earlier this afternoon. I had enough sense to work on my office database and not a spreadsheet, thus data loss was minimal. If not, I’d lose a few hours worth of work and would probably be pulling all my hair out by now.

I’d be offline if not for my dad’s notebook. But this being my dad’s notebook, I won’t be able to say much here, except to say that right now, my frustration is absolute and complete.

I shall now spend the entire evening shying away from all electrical appliances and maroon myself underneath a blanket while attempting to finish Sting’s memoir tonight. Too bad it’s not the man himself…

One of my worst fears 2 years ago

My beloved IBM R52 Thinkpad has gone comatose. I was using it fine this morning, but now I can’t seem to power it on! I swapped the power chord but still.. nothing. I know the battery is good, so it must be something internal, though I hope it’s not the motherboard. The thing is I won’t know much until I get back to work on Thursday. In the mean time, I’ll be using my home PC. I hope my hard disk is intact, coz I can’t afford to lose data. Frantically trying to recall if I saved anything critical on my local drive, but my recent work has been mostly saved onto the server, so that’s a good thing.

Trying hard not to panic. I am so dependent on it for all my work and personal needs, I am not sure how this will eventually affect me. It can be very bad, if I let it, so I’m trying not to. Whatever happens, I just hope I don’t lose my data.

Gosh, Thursday can’t come soon enough now.
