The Dollar and a Half Cardigan 15 months ago

I cast on this pattern last night, and I’m pretty excited. Partially, I haven’t had a real knitting project since I finished the socks of doom early this summer (these were epic, experimental socks I made up, starting from one of Cat Bordhi’s novel sock architectures and they’re beautiful, but took forever and wore me out). Since then, it’s been a series of little projects like dishcloths, with another pair of socks for good measure (which I banged out in under a week while on vacation).

The yarn I’m using is from a slightly moth-eaten sweater I got at a thrift store for $2 and took apart. It’s charcoal gray wool. I like the level of asymmetricality in it – left to the designs on the sweater and not the shape of it. I think it fits into my frumpy-yet interesting teacher aesthetic well.

The sweater which yielded the yarn cost $2, which is 50 cents over budget. However, I may not use all the yarn from the sweater, in which case I can prorate and may still be on budget for $1.50.

I have no idea where this name came from, but it would amuse me greatly to be able to pull off making it for that much.
