I can’t believe I had this goal up for a year. Oops. ._.
How to see a gynecologist
How I did it: My family never really discussed sex and gynecological health. My friends either don't talk about it, can't afford it or won't go for other reasons.
I wanted to make sure everything was okay, so I finally went today. Everyone was really nice, from the receptionists to the medical assistants to the doctor herself.
The doctor gave me a quick run down about why women should see a ob/gyn (most of which I knew from research, education and what not), but it was still nice that she talked me through everything.
The exam itself was a little uncomfortable, but again it helped that the doctor told me everything she did step by step and let me know what she saw and when to expect discomfort. Unfortunately I don't think the discomfort was unavoidable but it helps to BREATHE and to just relax.
I also got a chance to talk any concerns I had and had a blood test done.
Lessons & tips: If you're looking for a doctor, I would suggest Yelp. While they
obviously don't have every doctor in the book, it's a useful tool for
good and bad experiences. I also suggest you make appointments on
Fridays when business, traffic, etc. tend to be less and things tend to
be more chill. Avoid Mondays since they can be kinda hectic.
Don't stress out! It's important to be educated about your choices and options as well as the health of your body.

Planned Parenthood also does ob/gyn examinations I believe.

I just made an appointment for tomorrow morning. I want to have an exam, a pap smear and hopefully get put on some kind of birth control.
I’m 23. This will be my first time visiting that kind of doctor. I always put it off out of fear (both shyness and fear they’d find a problem). However, I’m now sexually active and really, really terrified of becoming pregnant, so my desire to get birth control now overrides anything else! And having a doctor look at me can’t be any more embarrassing than having him look at me, right?
I’m so happy that I’ll FINALLY be getting this over with, not to mention that using birth control and condoms will make me feel a whole lot better about that. Hopefully they won’t find anything wrong with me. ~ fingers crossed ~ :-/
I went to Planned Parenthood today for my first exam. It was definitely not a pleasant feeling, but the people were really nice and helpful. And for someone who doesn’t have insurance, the price was very reasonable. I’m proud of myself for going.
Haha, I forgot I did this! I can cross this off. After seeing the gyn, I am not so sure why this was on my list. But yeah, it was not bad, but I can at least say I have done this and minus PCOS, am completely healthy.
So I went to see a gyn, got refered to another due to possibility of PCOS. Then called that one, and they did not take my insurance, but suggested one in the same building. Then I called them, set up an appointment, but have to wait until the end of September, so here goes…
I’ve GOT to do this. Maybe I can make the appointment today.
