How to go to the zoo by ugogrl

"I felt frisky, ape-ish and had a whale of a time"

How I did it: My sister, mom and me went to the Bronx zoo last summer cuz we wanted to see the animals.  We drove from Queens. We brought our entrance tickets and tickets to the Madagascar exhibit so we could see the Lemurs.

There were plenty of animals to see.  For me the highlights were the lemurs and the seal lions.  The lemurs weren't behind glass and we got really close-up & personal. One of them was sleeping and he opened one eye and stared at me, as if to say, "Do you mind? I'm sleeping!" 

The sea lions were very chatty.  We got there @ feeding time and they were very happy to be getting fed. The baby sea lion was the big attraction and very cute to boot.

The monkey house was fun too.  It's amazing that right in the heart of the urban jungle there is a piece of paradise at the zoo.

Lessons & tips:

  • Bring a camera
  • Monkey around
  • Be prepared to walk
  • Bring water---they charge too much for it

    I told my cousin that I’d take her and my nephew to the zoo soon.

    And while I’m not a big fan of animal captivity (that one penguin movie with the little penguin at the zoo kind of turned it off for me) I will undoubtedly go just for the sake of having something to do.

    I plan on completing this goal within the next month or two.

    We made plans 4 months ago

    to go to the zoo on friday. But that friday was hell: my washing maschine refused to work, the contractor of our house came to talk about some things that still had to be done and it started to rain (and didn’t stop until saturday). My parents also came to visit. I actually wanted to invite them to see the zoo with my kids, have a picnic there and have a great time together. But that didn’t work out and we postponed going to the zoo.
    But then, on saturday, my parents had the idea of going to the zoo alone with my kids. I have to admit, I didn’t know what to think about it at first, because I also wanted to be there with my children when they walked through the monkey-area for the first time or seeing my son face to face with a big tiger. But it was sooo tempting: spending at least 4 hours alone with my husband to have time to go shopping, clean the house and have a quiet cup of coffee.

    Well, they enjoyed themselves and we took care of things in the meantime. It was worth it – even though I’m still sad about not joning the fun.

    I am going to start planning a trip to the biodome in montreal where you can walk through a whole bunch of different ecosystems and look at all of the different animals and vegetation. Hopefully I will see some really cool stuff! Studying Biology I learn about all sorts of animals but seeing the up close is soo much better!
