Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

A_butterfly_kissI am giving up on this one too

I have had this on my list too long. Unfortunately, I have no plans or any attempt to make this real this year :-( 5 months ago

ClarebeccaStep 1

I have joined the cat protection society as an annual member. Cost $35. Now need to make sure I become actively involved somehow (ie not just hand over money).
I previously applied for volunteer position there but never heard back – currently there is a waiting list and new applications aren’t being accepted so I might have to find another shelter further from home. 6 months ago

LailahNew shift

I have been volunteering in the boarding section of the shelter for almost a year now for two days per week, one day cleaning and the other cat cuddling.

I needed to change my current shifts over to weekends from the start of March onwards, so now I volunteer on weekends but only one day per week because that is all that is available. I’d like to volunteer more hours though, on both days of the weekend not just one.

I still have my same shifts, just on different days now. I have also started volunteering in the actual shelter itself doing cat cuddling. I had my first shift recently and now I want to adopt a cat.

I actually wanted to adopt an older/senior female cat but I have two Jack Russell x Chihuahua’s and I’m not sure how the cat or my dogs would react/adjust to a new animal in their environment. I think it might be best to adopt a kitten so that the kitten can grow up with my dogs. It’s a big decision though, I have been thinking about the possibility of adopting a cat for over a year now and still am not sure. 8 months ago

helloeloI've volunteered at

both domestic animal shelters and wildlife shelters. I find it harder emotionally to volunteer at the animal shelter with all the cats and dogs because I know they need to find someone to take them home and love them, where as you just help the wildlife grow into functioning adults and release them, so it is much more rewarding in that sense. 11 months ago

ILostMySanityI want to help.

I’ve been looking into getting two new kittens recently and have decided that I want to adopt from a shelter. I realized that they really need good homes and would love to help. That made me realize that in the future when possible I would like to volunteer, especially knowing extra help is needed. In fact I created this today to remind me of it so I don’t forget.

I love animals. <3 12 months ago

Lailah5 weeks into this goal

I started volunteering five weeks ago in the boarding center. I volunteer two hours a week for cat cuddling and three hours a week for cleaning. I actually look forward to the two days of the week that I get to volunteer.

The cleaning shift is three hours of non-stop cleaning and it is such good exercise and I enjoy doing it because I know it’s for the animals. The cat cuddling is good for obvious reasons lol.

I love animals and have wanted to volunteer for years so I knew that this goal would be worthwhile and meaningful to me. Being around animals is always a nice feeling and the staff and other volunteers that I have met are such friendly/nice people. Over all volunteering has been a very pleasant and enjoyable experience for me.

I would love to work there one day or somewhere similar, that would be my dream job, it wouldn’t even feel like work because I’d be doing something I love. I think most jobs like that are only part time and I need full-time work so unfortunately for me I most likely will not get to work in that area. If there was a real possibility that I could get full-time work in this area I would complete the required studying/training asap. 17 months ago
