Had to give up going to the gym for a few months after being hit by a car. I’m planning to go back, twice a week to start, in June.
In the meantime, I’m trying to improve my dinner menu at home and lunch options at work. When I went back to work 2 weeks ago, I brought my lunch one day out of the five that I worked. Last week, I brought a homemade lunch twice. Next week, I plan to bring a lunch three days, and so on, until I’ve eliminated buying lunch completely or at least until I cut it down to only buying one meal per week.
When I do buy lunch, I’ve made a habit of making healthier choices: soup or salad, non-greasy sandwich, sushi. Items on my naughty list: pizza/pasta, hot dogs, fries, rice, potstickers, most chinese food. I hope I can add more to both the “good” and “bad” lists as time goes on.

I have been walking 4+ miles everyday for the past 6 days. I feel great!! I’ve even got my youngest daughter walking with me now, plus the weight is coming down…Waaaahooo!!

My health is improving though I started back smoking. I’ve lost weight, I’m more active and I don’t take any prescription meds anymore. Since losing weight, I was able to stop taking my diabetic meds…my blood sugar level is almost normal everyday as long as I stay on my diet.

I mess up, but I’m back at it. Though I am smoking again (I know, shame on me) I have gotten back on a sensible healthy diet and I’m exercising daily (For about a month now). I have re-set a date (April 1, 2009) to quit smoking. I wanted to get into a daily routine of eating healthy and exercising and then add the “Quit Smoking”.

Since midnight 12/31/08..I have quit smoking and have lost 7lbs.
I am eating healthy everyday and exercising, and I am feeling GREAT!!

Around the middle of October increasing work demands prevented me from keeping my regular workout schedule. This went on for several weeks and last week I finally started going again. My training sessions have not yet resumed, but I’m hoping to schedule them asap. Other bad news, the gym I go to might be closing for business. Luckily, I live very close to the other one in the bay area.

Step forward

Today (11/18/08) I called the local YMCA and talked to them about their health and fitness programs and their aquatics programs (since I don’t know how to swim). I’m going to go there for a tour next week or maybe even this week. Truthfully, I got excited after talking to one of the counselors about going. I think this would be a good step forward.
