I’d been meaning to do this for a while, but today I finally dug the feeders out and hung them up. I have two in front of the house for me to watch, and two in the back of the house, next to my indoor cats’ favorite windows. Hopefully I’ll start seeing birds soon.
How to put up a bird feeder
How I did it: This goal largely tied in with buying a house goal. I've wanted to put up bird feeders for yonks but have always felt that I needed to live somewhere permanent as its a real commitment to start feeding them - especially if you suddenly stop and move in winter when food sources are so rare. So we now have a window feeder on our kitchen window and various fat balls hanging from twigs in the garden. I;ve spotted a robin and a blackbird so far and hope there'll be more!
Lessons & tips: If you start feeding the birds don;t stop! Once they know theres food birds will often make a special trip to your garden and this can be fatal in winter if there's nothing there and their energy levels are low : (
You can buy feeders in loads of places or have fun making your own! Try different food for different birds - seeds will attract blue tits and robins like the fat balls
