I spent last year (2005) touring with Eleven Standing Still throughout the Eastern United States. I was able to see a lot of cities – a ton of hotels – and plenty of corn when heading to St. Louis! I have to say that overall, the experience was one that I wouldn’t trade! While a lot of the time was enjoyable (especially after we got back home), there were also some no so great times…
Guys with awesome talent, come with awesome responsibility. Don’t let them cheat on their wives/girlfriends, don’t let the lead singer get dehydrated, don’t let the drummer run out of rum & coke, and keep the bassist happy. The guitarist hates to wear anything other than wife beaters when on stage. And they all love the bikini competition (but hey, who doesn’t!)
Job Description: Must be willing to clean up after 4 guys, while sharing a small hotel room, and driving around from place to place in a “quit playin” mobile, while maintaining professional demeanor and representing the band to the best of your ability. (Which means, NO eating of the foam in the foam pit…had to learn that one the hard way!)
It was a blast and I have to say, an experience that changed me in more ways than I can count. I love music and talented musicians are hard to come by these days – Eleven Standing Still is one of the rare groups that I feel will make a difference in people’s lives. While touring with 4 guys wasn’t always easy, it sure created a memorable experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything else in the world…
Bottom line – If you get the chance to do this – GO FOR IT!!
