"Well worth it. Wish I had done this sooner! "
How I did it: Not using my car over Christmas and the next month cos I knew there was a leak which made a puddle on the seats was enough to push me in the direction of a replacement. Also I needed a smaller car for driving instruction.
I had really gone off my beloved car by the time I needed to drive again.
There was mould on the dashboard/seats/headrests. We turned a corner and there was a mini Niagara Falls down the inside of the window. Aghh.
I had a look in all the local dealers and decided on a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2i Design - 3 door with 16 inch wheels. Minted!
Taking previous car, to exchange, I had it valeted first - guy did a great job. Rid of all the green mould on dashboard and seats dried out.
Lessons & tips:
Know the market like the back of your hand. Be there with the answers on the differences between each particular trim level, etc before the salesman can give you any old line.
Beat them at their own game. Stick to your guns on price and they will throw in mats and fuel. In this case metallic paint was a no cost extra.
Valeting old car pre trade-in estimate is well worth it.
Resources: Knowledge of car markets.
Going around the dealers and looking up the manufacturers sites on the web.
Reading and remembering the salient points per model.
Parkers guides are good, too.
