There are days I don’t have to get out of the house, so I usually don’t. I can spend a weekend inside just because I have nothing to do outside. I decided I need to find something to do outside, even if it’s just a walk around the block.
Fresh air-good. A little exercise-good. Finding new hobbies-we’ll see.
Grumpy because Matt hadn’t told me he had arranged to work and because outside looked grey and rainyhostile and simply because it was Saturday in London and it just seemed like too much effort to battle crowds on the tube and I had nobody to meet or call and just. Inhale. Sigh.
So I made myself do the chores, go to the bank and get on the tube with Esme – this time to St Paul’s and strangers were smiley and helpful.
Cheered up, we made an accordian player smile and danced in the tube. Outside we smiled at the 1950’s styled newlyweds on the steps of St Paul’s, admiring the bride twirling her scarlet underskirts. Seeing the river and the gulls made us both happy even while the wind took our breath away. We waited for the bagpiper as he unscrewed and snakecharmed each separate pipe before giving the mended beast life.
Tate Modern,Gilbert and George.
so we went straight out for walk and Esme watched the lady inflate her new heart balloon with great excitement
planning a proper pretty walk tomorrow
Today was easy even though I was working.
Period One – on a windy playground shivering in the sunshine with the whole of Year 11 sprucing them up and lining them up for one huge end of school photograph. Many photographs were needed to ensure everybody’s hands were where they should be!
Period Three – some idiot set off the firealarm and I’m back on the playground shivering with the whole school while everyone tries to find out who did it, hear the dreaded instruction “Ten minutes onto the school day” and groan in unison.I close my eyes and raise my face in the direction of the sunshine hoping nobody will notice I love being outside!
School trip to The Globe theatre and I’m astonished to realise I’m the only person who knows the route from London Bridge.
At the end of the trip I have to run from the tube station back to school and I’m still a little late picking up my baby girl.
Other days will require more effort.
