DH and I have both accepted jobs in the L.A. area. So I guess we have figured out what we’re doing and where we’re moving…now we just have to do it.

    Two offers 3 years ago

I’ve got two offers now, I think I won’t go for any more interviews (I’m already in the hole for vacation time from my current job.)

Now I just have to wait and see what kind of offers DH gets, so we can coordinate our decisions.

Interview #1 down 3 years ago

Don’t think I really want to work there. But going out to L.A. just reminded me of all the reasons I want move back there soon. So I’m really psyched about interview #2, next week.

Also, DH is going to have an interview with the company I already interviewed with (but a different division than I did, so he might actually want to take that job). It’s looking more and more likely that we’d be moving out there in June.

Plus, most of our friends here are moving away (and most of those are going to California) so that’s even more reason to get out of here!

    Interviews 3 years ago

The first inteview is tomorrow. I have another one scheduled for two weeks from tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m trying to line up a couple more interviews with other companies.

I hope DH gets some more interviews soon. He had one yesterday but that’s the only one he has scheduled so far. He’s very smart but he’s kind of quiet, so he has a harder time marketing himself.

    First interview 3 years ago

I have scheduled my first on-site interview with a company in the LA area. I’m surprised that this particular company contacted me since it seemed like they were very particular about the hiring process (usually supposed to submit a resume to their online database before they’ll even consider you.) I guess they were just very impressed with my showing at the career fair and our “conversation” the next day.

This has me scared in a way that I wasn’t with the interview process for my current job. With my current job, I felt that I was pretty much guaranteed a job and so I felt no uncertainty about the future. But now, I really am going to be under scrutiny, and I am not guaranteed a job. In addition, I’m not sure how my travel (to on-site interviews) is going to mesh with my current job (using up vacation time I haven’t yet accrued?) I’m also concerned about lining up interviews with other companies so that I can get offers within a reasonable amount of time of each other. Not to mention making sure that DH also gets job offers within a reasonable amount of time of mine.

    Scary…

Got my offer, finally! 3 years ago

And the start date is March 6. It probably could have been Feb. 27 but I don’t particularly feel like pushing for that. Vacation (read: unemployment) has grown on me a little.

I went to a career fair today at my university and gave out a few resumes for job possiblities starting in June (when DH graduates and we might move away). I felt pretty good about it; I thought I was pretty poised and that I made some good impressions. I have a few on-campus interviews tomorrow. I’m almost looking forward to it, and I’m feeling pretty confident.

Unemployed, or Almost Employed 3 years ago

It’s funny to realize that I am actually still unemployed. I prefer to think of it as an extended vacation between graduate school and starting a full time job.

It’s looking more like I am going to have at least another week before I start working. I can’t say I’m unhappy about that. It really is like a vacation, since DH is still getting his stipend and we won’t have any trouble paying the bills or anything. We just won’t be putting away as much money as usual this month. And next month, or whenever I start working, we’ll be putting away a lot more than previously. So, I don’t mind the delay.

    Waiting... 3 years ago

I did my interview on Jan 18 as planned, but I’m still waiting for an offer from HR. Boy, are those guys slow. At least the head of the division is negotiating with HR for me.

I figure I’ll probably get all the details ironed out in the next week or two. Then I start getting paid the big bucks!

    REscheduled 3 years ago

The interview has been moved back to Jan. 18th. That’s a very good thing – it’ll give me some extra time to prepare my technical presentation. Also, I need to get out and buy some shoes and a blouse for my interview, and I tend to be sort of lazy about those things.

    Interview scheduled! 3 years ago

It’s Jan 3rd, first thing in the morning. I’ll probably be a little nervous, even though there’s no good reason since I’m pretty much guaranteed the job.

Guess I need to get out there soon to buy some dress shoes and a blouse to go with my interview suit.
