Okay so i have almost exactly 1.5 days in which to finish reading 'mostly harmless' 16 months ago

I need to return the series to my good buddy christina at work before i leave that job forever!

It will i’m sure, help me to get beyond the wierd anxiety of leaving behind the familiar if i’m too busy reading about arthur dent’s anxiety to notice.

Cheers.

Halfway through 'So long and thanks for all the fish' 16 months ago

Ahh…..
i’m kind of lost on what the heck is going on with ford, but i’ve had moments like that throughout the series so far so i’ll just plug on through.

So far though, i’m an alterian megafan.

An engaging wander around the mind of Douglas Adams 16 months ago

Get ready to pay attention, because this guy is clever and he won’t wait for you. He just keeps ploughing ahead with insights and witticisms (and Britishisms, my favourite), ideas and laughs.

Oh, and his stories aren’t bad either.

Take a holiday across the Galaxy with him!

Just finished mostly harmless 2 years ago

and now what?
I’m supposed to go back to my earthy books?

No doubt, these are books I’ll read again some day.
I loved the criticism, I loved the language games (which means I’ll have to try the English version) and I loved the crazy stories which will never make sense.

I finished “so long and thanks for all the fish” and started “mostly harmless”.

finished “life, the universe and everything” for the second time. I enjoyed it this time so I’m glad I read it again.
I started “so long and thanks for all the fish” and so far so good.

Reading life, the universe and everything again 2 years ago

I hope to enjoy it more this time. I usually don’t read a book again shortly after the first read but since it’s a short one and part of a series, it won’t take long and will help me get back to the hitchhiker mood.

got the 4th book 2 years ago

finally, I took the 4th book from my brother. I need to finish what I’m reading now and then I think I’ll read the 3rd book again. I didn’t enjoy it much last time but I think I didn’t pay much attention to it since I read it in the middle of too many other things. Now I have the time for it and the 4th and 5th are waiting, so here I come. Don’t panic!

Melissa B. is a "Newness-seeking Self-improving Tree Hugger" . . . or is she? :)

Mostly Harmless 2 years ago

I have finished the fifth and final book in the Hitchhiker’s Series.

I think each book was a little less funny than the one before it. Fortunately, the first book was pretty dang funny.

Some thoughts on Mostly Harmless:

I missed Marvin.

I missed Zaphod.

I was tired of Ford.

I wondered why certain characters were introduced in earlier books, given much attention, only to disappear in subsequent books.

I had to re-read the last two pages to make sure what I thought had just happened had actually happened. I didn’t like the final ending.

I missed that quick, witty, and seemingly effortless flow of language that Adams displayed in the first book. By Mostly Harmless, it seemed as if Adam lost a natural flow and was struggling (and not quite succeeding) to replicate what once came easy to him.
