I used to..
.. have a very healthy diet, I ate lots of fruits and vegetables, but somehow I stopped.. I drink some cup of green tea every day, which is good, but actually that’s all. I eat sweets and lots of fried stuff.
So the first goal is: an apple a day..

I have made some significant improvements in this department. We eat at home much more, which means much less fried food and I am eating less sweets. Satiating my sweet tooth with fruits and honeys rather than cookies and candy. With access to great farmers markets, we are eating much more fresh, organic produce. A little less meat, more Asian influence and more seafood – while trying to be careful of mercury intake.
I also completed a light and simple cleanse a couple weeks ago which helped get my digestive system back into a healthy routine. I have noticed a big difference.
All around I feel like we have made some healthy new habits without too much fuss. And we are enjoying food more than ever. So after a meal of curried red snapper – the first I have grilled – and broccoli with Julie’s organic blackberry sorbet popsicles for dessert, I am happily marking this as done.

We have been eating a lot more fish so I was glad to learn a bit more. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=1022.

I have been really good about keeping a record of my diet since Wednesday. Overall I seem to be better than I thought in this state of eating as I usually do. Not going too overboard with the carbs or fat. Overall observation is what I already knew – need to eat more protein, fruits, and vegetables. And should DRINK MORE WATER. During the week I am better at this as I drink tea most the day. But I have been gradually replacing tea with coffee. Not good. And my lips are chapped. I am gonna get a glass of water right now.
I am also doing better than I thought in tracking my calories burned through yoga and daily walks with the dog. Burned a total of 458 cals Wed – Sat. To improve I would like to do more “power” walking and I am even considering going and jogging the staircase in our neighborhood once a week… For me, this thought is unheard of! But the biggest thing I need in this department is build strength. Especially core strength which will enable me to do so much more with yoga. Need to get back to nightly sit ups and push ups. At least during the week.
This last week I was pretty emotional so I would like to keep tracking through next Wednesday to get more data.

After some serendipitous conversations with friends and family, I would like to establish a more healthy diet and digestive system. The plan:
- Keep a food diary (through SparkPeople.com) for the rest of the week to understand my habits and what needs the most improvement.
- Do an herbal detox cleanse
- Plan out healthy meals 5 days a week
- Through the season of Lent: fast until 3pm on Fridays. More for spiritual experience than health.
