I have heard it is tougher to learn than Spanish or Italian or a lot of other languages. English is very quirky with often arbitrary rules. It is also, frankly, not as lyrical and beautiful as some other languages such as Italian, French, or Spanish.
Since I was very young when I learned it, you might think it is weird for me to put this in here, but I think everyone should claim an accomplishment for acquiring their first language. While I don’t remember learning English, when I look back on me or any other small person acquiring a language, I am amazed at what such a small, young person can do. Especially when I struggle now in learning French and Spanish and Italian and continuously get it wrong and make mistakes, it amazes me that little people with much less education than I have seem to acquire their first languages with a kind of careless ease I envy!
So - everyone - take a moment to ponder on how you achieved one of your first accomplishments and then give yourself a pat on the back for doing it! Come on—it feels good!

Contar con la persona indicada es la clave, así como me pasó a mí. Sin embargo, el mundo se abre cuando uno cuenta con ese idioma (además del español, que es lo que quieren aprender aquí en Alemania en estos días… :-) ).
