I first got some chickens when I lived in town .. the only thing I can say there is don’t get a rooster. the neighbors will hate you when it crows.. hehe
now here out in the country we can have as many chickens as we’d like. but 3 are enough plus a rooster we “inherited”.
Thing is finding a use for all those eggs. It’s odd but alot of people are actually very squeamish about taking eggs laid fresh. Esp if they aren’t white.
The chickens we have now lay brown eggs, but the ones before laid ones with green or blue hues to it.
But besides getting eggs, there are other great benefits from chickens. For instance they are great at turning over our compost heap. They eat bugs and nasty ones like scorpions. When I first moved out here I saw two scorpions. I haven’t seen one since.
Also, chickens do have a certain amount of “personality” to them. They are really a joy to watch.
