So that we will not have to pay for this on credit cards, I will contribute monthly to the “vacation fund” for the next 10 months. Then we will have the money, and we can go on the trip then, or save it.

I have purchased and begun to read a guidebook on Tahiti by Rob Kay, Hidden Tahiti and French Polynesia, 6th edition.
My initial idea was just anywhere with an overwater bungalow, but after reading the book a little, I like the idea of visiting 2-3 island. I like the description of Rangiroa, especially with its diving. The Kia Ora Sauvage deluxe beach bungalow would be awesome but very expensive. Another island that sounds nice is Fakarava, which the book describes as “like Rangiroa used to be 15 years ago.” There are no luxury accomodations there, but there are bungalows, and more beautiful diving.
I would also like to see a pearl farm, and see some of the polynesian marae (old temple sites) and learn about the civilization that was there prior to European contact.
I am going to have to save a lot for this. Probably we will not be able to go until 2010. I don’t know if any dive site could top Bonaire, but these islands look beautiful.
