How I did it: One of my friends had a guitar and I was looking at it one day. She showed me one song and I was hooked.Another friend had 2 guitars and lent me one to learn. I kept at it, although wasn't really getting it to begin with. Looking back now, I was really murdering the strings when I first started. My friends showed me a few things when I got really stuck. Then I received a guitar for christmas and then that was it. No going back, I was dete… Read how I did it…

How I did it: The only thing that works is practice, practice, practice. It's great if you can go to a group class with a friendly instructor. Also go online and see if you can find any songs you like that are have chords written out for you. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I learned to play using online resources. I still want to learn to read music and learn theory, but I am very satisfied with my playing ability. I play almost everyday, some days for hours others for half an hour. I kept my guitar near my desk and picked it up whenever I am inspired to play. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I wanted to learn guitar for a while to accompany the songs I wrote, but it took me a while, mainly because I didn't see myself as the type of person who'd play guitar, which was ridiculous. Anyone who wants to learn an instrument can do it. There's no specific type of person.Still, it kinda got me down when people laughed at me for it and said things like "HA! Picture HER with a guitar!"Honestly, that was probably the hardest part. I can… Read how I did it…

I need to start taking lessons. I have plenty of books and CDs but without feedback they aren’t much use. It would help me get started if I knew that I was at least heading in the right direction.

Decided one day that I /had/ to learn guitar, so the next time I went out of guitar I hunted down a guitar shop and bought a beautiful guitar. I’ve been teaching myself how to play, but I need to dedicate more time to it and maybe get some professional lessons.
laika43 if you do what you've always done you'll get what you've always got
I don’t want to learn to a high level (I have no intention of being in a band) just to play a few songs would be good. I’ve begun to learn a couple of chords but thats it really. I need to find some songs I like online and that will keep my motivated.
I would like to have lessons but I can’t afford that right now – maybe I will heavily hint and someone will get me some lessons for Christmas. After all ‘tis the season to beg for gifts ;)

I’ve started on this like six years ago actually…
I even own a wonderful electric guitar but somehow I never had the money to go on paying for lessons nor did I have the nerve to learn by doing. This IS a definite goal of mine but I’m not intending to start on it very soon. I think I will in about one and a half year have the time to do it however, till then this will remain untouched. :(
i gotta hold off on the guitar and save a bit of money before i can get one.
