I’ve read the first chapter twice I think. I haven’t moved beyond that. I’m afraid the book will really depress me and frustrate me. I will try and read one chapter a month this year. Now that I don’t have cable, I may be more motivated.

that one of my Korean friends (she’s an international student) is reading this book as well. I was so excited because it’s so hard to find people with shared interests, and this is definitely not a “leisurely” book to read! It must be challenging for her because she does not know English that well. Heck, this book is challenging for me, and English is my native language! Sheesh. But I can’t wait to discuss stuff with her. It’ll be a blast! :)
I am going to try to finish Chapter 2 the end of the first week in May.

I was going to do this during spring break but I didn’t even touch it. :( Sadness. I’ll catch a few chapters during weekends, I guess or whenever I have free time.
if I want to finish this by the end of the year, then I need to be reading a chapter a day, preferably more.
Ideally I’d like to finish this by the end of December; as it stands I’m about a 1/5 of the way through.
I lied when I said I’ve done this. I’ve only partially made it through this.
I really despise Howard Zinn, although this is the opion of someone who had to read this text for a course, not for fun. The only reason I read as much of this book as I did is because I had a huge thing for my teacher and I wanted to be able to have intelligent conversations with him.
Good luck though!
I raced through this finding it a refreshingly honest account of the formation of a great nation. It is frank about both the positive and negative aspects of the country and it’s struggles to grow and evolve.
