How I did it: Got a job, set up living arrangements, got rid of most of my belongings, drove across the country! I had my best friend ride along with me for moral support, which was a great idea. I was thinking of going alone, but I'm sure glad that I didn't. It was more fun with her there, to share that experience with me! Read how I did it… 20 months ago
I quite my job on the east coast, applied for a job in Montana, did interviews over the telephone, landed the job, made arrangements for living prior to moving, and moved!
Deciding what to bring with me was pretty challenging, I went back and forth between renting a U-haul or just stuffing my car with as many things as possible and that’s it. I decided to bring “less” and just take whatever I could fit into my car. I gave all my other possessions away to family members on the east coast.
It’s now been 1.5 years in Montana, had many adventures, met many great people, I’d say the goal was worth achieving! One of the downsides to living here is that I don’t get paid as much as I did when living back east, but I’d say the experience was still worth it. 20 months ago
