"I just took the whole program in BabySteps."
How I did it: I found FlyLady several years ago. She has a system for making a nice home, which I guess most women know about, but I really didn't, as my mother had a lot of problems medically and emotionally and then died while I was still in school. I just didn't get the guidance other girls had, plus I do also have that easily distracted, creative personalty that she writes about. So I suffered from serious CHAOS, or Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome!
I had been 'fluttering' on and off for years. I found myself so happy when I got rid of a lot of junk. FlyLady talks about not keeping anything unless we love it, and I really purged a lot. The hardest was *several boxes* full of cards, letters, photos and stuff of people from my past, but due to her sensible system of 15 minutes at a time, I got everything down to a *couple of files and an large envelope* of photos and cards of those I still love today. Sometimes I could only do 5 minutes at a time, but finally, all that stuff that I dragged around was gone! What a blessing! And this is just one example of how great this is, but I never would apply the system totally, but wanted to.
When I joined 43 things, I saw an opportunity to really focus on this goal. So I just started every day with the simple things, such as shine my sink at night, and would do some of the assignments. Then I started doing them all, and it really doesn't take that long if I do it first.
Then I just started adding the morning and evening routines and started a Control Journal. Now I just look at something and realize it will just take a minute to do and do it. I don't always have to be 'prompted' by her missions. I also break down her Monday Home Blessing into smaller bits during the weekend.
I love my clean home!
Another thing I really like about her emails is that women will write in about the stuff they faced growing up, and how it affects them today as adults, and using the system to overcome that. We don't blame our families of origin, but we don't have to live like them either. There is indeed all kinds of clutter, and some women have body clutter, excess weight, and attitudes that can be healed and end up empowering us instead of hurting us. We don't have to hoard, live in messiness and fear, or disrespect ourselves in any way.
FLY means Finally Loving Yourself. I love that!
Lessons & tips: Sign up at her Yahoo group. I used to get her emails, but found that there were so many they cluttered up my mailbox, so now I prefer just going to the group and reading them there. I also downloaded the FlyLady toolbar, as I can spend too much time on the computer and having that bar right in my face helps.
