    Little drawers. 2 weeks ago

Today I finished putting the printed labels in their little slots on the little drawers that I store the electronic components in. It makes it look neat.

I also have a little drawer marked ‘labels’, with blank labels in case I start filling an empty drawer.

Labels & desks. 1 month ago

I now have a Dymo machine on long-term loan, so I can label all the organized drawers in my lab.

One of the (unused) big desks in the office has found a new home. This has made a difference to the spaciousness of the office.

A tidy and spacious lab 1 month ago

I’m surprised that I had not mentioned this before. At work I have two benches to work on. The first is occupied by my instruments, the things that I’m actually working on. The other bench … well. For a long time it was occupied by old instruments that might have been used a long time ago, but certainly not for the last few years. Big things, too. For a long time I worked between and on these instruments, great hulking boxes from the past. A few months ago I got my act together and moved most of them to a storage space, being aided and abetted by David.

I also made a great big pile of all the obsolete computers and screens and got the asset control division to take them away for us.

I must say that all of this was a wholesome improvement in my life. My lab now definitely feels more tidy and spacious, and I’m sure that it has improved my productivity too.

I’m not done yet. Some of the drawers are filled with historical clutter (and some with junk), and the ones that I have under control still needs to be labelled. So it’s onward to more tidyness and spaciousness.

One of the rules of filing. 4 months ago

A thing is not filed unless it is under a correctly labelled cover.

    Vision regained. 5 months ago

Slow, steady progress. Tonight I’m sitting at the table in my room with a cup of hot chocolate. My cup stands on a coaster that I have on the table for this purpose. For three and a half years I have not been able to do this, because the table had not been usable for all the clutter that had collected on it.

Considering this, I realize that for three and a half years I had not come close to what I envisioned for this table when I put it in this specific location.

    Emptying. 7 months ago

This weekend we went through a number of boxes of old electronics and added a lot of stuff to the e-waste pile.

    More useful space.

Aid against entropy. 7 months ago

I found that we had a small bookshelf at home that will help me keep my flat more tidy and spacious.

    Working space 7 months ago

The table in my flat is now clear enough for me to do the small amount of work I need to do there. I should probably have more bookshelves, but in the meantime I’ll make do with piles, but these are not random piles, they’re piles with a plan.

Small is easy 10 months ago

This afternoon I tidied a section of bookshelf that’s been bothering me for a while. I now have more space, some empty files, and I found a lost book! It didn’t take very long.

    Clean sheet 11 months ago

In my bedroom I have two beds. Of course I use only the one to sleep on. The other one used to be a storage space, but for the last week it has been empty.
