4 people want to do this.

Convince at least one 43er with the goal "become anorexic" that this is a really stupid goal...

Watching that film “Thin” on youtube made me really aware of how complicated this disorder is. It has very little to do with food and has everything to do with family. that is hard to fix.

I’ve decided to do this because I am completly shocked at the amount of young children (like, 7-10…waaaayyy to young…) want to become anorexic. The fact that these children are looking for ADVICE to become anorexic is shocking. I want to help atleast one person. It may only be one, but it is one less life at risk.

Yep. I give up too. 2 years ago

And I also think it is very sad.

Well, I'm not sure 2 years ago

if I’ve actually done this, but since 43Things no longer provides a forum for pro-Ana people I have no way of determining if this goal is complete or not. So I am moving it off of my list.

It looks as if... 2 years ago

...43Things has disallowed the goal of becoming anorexic to be a part of this site. Not sure when that occured. I noticed that when you type something in about anorexia you are redirected to links for getting help with eating disorders.

I think that is great, and at the same time, as deadweightloss pointed out, hopefully the girls with this problem are not now getting a one-sided, pro-ana view of the issue when they move to other websites.

Glad I found this one 2 years ago

I saw this one on the list of NicolaSC. I occasionally respond to people who have ana topics, and I know that they just think that I am an interfering old mother. It doesn’t matter, I’ll keep doing it. I just don’t want them to escape to the hard-line pro-ana sites, so I really don’t want them banned from here. At least here they get a bit of a balanced response.

I just decided... 2 years ago

...to add this goal after reading some of the entries by 43ers with the goal of On Our Way to Becoming Ana.

JUST A FEW SIDE EFFECTS OF ANOREXIA NERVOSA
I am first listing the ones that may appeal to vanity. I hope you understand that though I make jokes, I am not joking.

Lanugo: Downy hair growing on the face and back. (Very attractive, I must say. Most guys would love to date a squirrel.)
Edema: water retention in legs, feet, and abdomen.
Muscle atrophy: muscles wasting away because the body is feeding off of them. Well, I for one always did find the look of skin-on-bone so much more cuddly.
Dry skin & hair, brittle nails, hair loss: I hear you can find some really nice wigs these days.
Ketoacidosis: High level of acids in the blood. Can lead to coma and death. And before that you have really bad breath, so pucker up.
Seizures: Might come in handy when you step out on the dance floor in that hot size 0 dress.
Low blood pressure: On second thought, you just might faint before you get out and boogie.
Insomnia: Hope you have lots of concealer for the black circles under your eyes.

I didn’t even mention the long list of other health issues: diabetes (yes, it can happen from starvation), infertility (better decide now if you ever want children), kidney infection or failure, and more. Nor did I mention the things that go along with bulimia (rotting teeth, bruised fingers, torn esophagus, cancer of the larynx, etc.) Or having to go to the hospital to have IVs in your arms or feeding tubes jammed down your throat.

My very best friend in high school suffered from anorexia, so this is also a goal for personal reasons. She looked like a skeleton with skin stretched over her, and she would pat her abdomen where her organs were and say, I just need to lose 5 more pounds. It was morbid. She had no idea how she looked. I am happy to say with intervention she survived, and we are still friends.

So if any of you are throwing the word anorexia around like it’s a joke or you think it’s not a big deal, to some people it’s a very big deal. And if you’re serious, then you need serious help and I hope that you get it.

This should be a team effort!!! 2 years ago

I am constantly amazed at the level to which young American (as well as English, and Auzie) women’s minds, bodies, and spirits are manupulated and tormented in the quest to “stay thin”!
    Just another example:

Thanks for spreading the word my good friend Lost!!! I was very shocked by the number of people who had this as a goal! (I think it was in the thousands!) How sad! You would think that when people set goals they should try to achieve somthing positive…. our society is pretty scrwed up sometimes…
