The hyacinths didn’t last long, but now I have tulips and daffodils in the kitchen and the living room. Spring is around the corner!

Lately, I’ve been slacking… but I never seem to see anything nice. And I’m too old-fashioned to buy flowers (or fruit) which are out season around here. Or maybe I’m not in the mood when it’s minus ten degrees? Patiently looking forward to spring…
In the meantime, it brings a smile upon my face to think of one day in summer, when I bought nine wildy different flowers for my sweetheart. A mix of lovely, over the top, modest, simple, roses, an orchid, a big sunflower. And when he came home and I opened the door, there he stood, nine roses in his arm. Two minds, one idea.

My mom and I were walking downtown and I saw a man selling them. I walked over and bought some for my mom. The look of satisfaction on her face made my day.
I did this more regularly in the past months. There is a store that sells daffodils and tulips for very little money. Of course, they are very basic – but also very nice!
I’d rather randomly give someone flowers than get them. And that’s what I plan to do. :)
I have an array of weird potted plants in my apartment, but then flowers are something else :-) It’s so nice to bring them home and to arrange them. (I have no garden right now, but I will at some point and then I’ll grow my own!) And then there they are, stuffed into one of my weird vases, and make me smile whenever I walk into the room.
I’m not going to allow myself to start doing this until my room is absolutely clean… it’s such a pleasureable goal that it’s doubling as a reward.
Its okay to buy yourself flowers, they’re beautiful – right? I like to go to the grocery store and mix and match 3 different packages of flowers … it only costs $10.00 and you can come up with huge arrangements!
at least once a year, i’ve filled my room with so many flowers it looks like i’m terminally ill. i’ve run out of vases before and ended up with roses in a blender (this is my favorite one), empty wine bottles, and water bottles. for under $20, you get to feel bohemian for a week. the downside is remembering to water them.
