Border Collies are fast learners and are a blast. I helped raise Joker and Bear since before they were old enough to walk on all fours. They have been apart of my life for over a year since then and I must say that as a first time owner of this breed, that they are the best dogs that I have ever had in my life. I must warn however that without proper excercise and play time, that they may find unwanted ways of entertaining themselves. (I learned that the hard way. lol) When given the proper training, these dogs are great to have. Teaching Joker and Bear all that they know now hasn’t been without patience and research. They are constantly being taught new things as well as coming up with their own tricks and cute behaviors that show their personalities. I would love to continue to chat with anyone on this subject, whether it may be about advice, Joker and Bear, or about the breed in general. I gave $100 in deposit money to a Border Collie breeder to hold onto a puppy for me when their upcoming litter is born. My parents told me no more dogs, as I have three American Eskimos, but I have the feeling that if I bring a puppy home, they’ll fall in love. It’s something I feel I need to do for myself.

Getting a Border Collie will help me in many ways. I want to do agility, obedience, and I want to have my dog become a certified service dog.

This is going to help me quit smoking (so I can do agility!) and to help me exercise more. Plus, I will finally have my favourite breed of dog.

Puppies are due around Mother’s Day, and I’ll be able to take mine home in the end of June. :)

I live with 5 border collies. They are a magnificent pack. But, the girls typically get to work, doing what they were shaped (selectively bred) to do – herd sheep. Most should not really be pets – they make up some interesting games when they get bored; those games can get pretty destructive. But, some are sent to you by some spiritual force that I just can’t explain.

I try to keep a ‘these dogs are work partners’ attitude towards them, but … it’s hard. They bring so much more to my life than just as a farm tool. The Hope dog, in particular, is my true soul mate. She … I have no words to describe the intensity of her sweetness. 6 years ago

my grandfather brought home a border collie for my mother and i when i was a little girl. from the age of 7 until age 22, she was my constant friend and loyal companion. everyone who met her loved her, even people who weren’t into dogs. she was mellow, kind and patient. when she died, after living a full life, it felt as if part of me had died right along with her. she remains one of the best things about my life thus far. i wouldn’t hesitate to adopt another border collie – they are an amazing breed. 8 years ago
