become an Australian citizen

I am an Indian citizen coming to Australia to study from Feb-09, my course is 2 years and 9 months.

I want to know what is the truth about becoming a citizen. I’ve heard a lot of things like I have to stay in Aus for 2 years after I get my PR and someone else said i have to stay there for 4 years..!!

What do i do After i finish studying? How do i get a PR and how do i become a citizen after that!?

I’m 20 today and my goal is to become a Australian citizen by the age of 25 !

Can anyone help ?

I’v been travlling in Australia for 9 months! i love EVERYTHING about this country. But what should i do to become an aussie? i don’t know.

Became a citizen today in an express ceremony..no tree!!!! I cried, I think I was the only one….said the pledge,sang the anthem…it was all over in about 20 mins…....we got our citificates and away we went to lunch…...aussie,aussie,aussie, oi,oi,oi…..I guess I’ll have to get used to saying that now…....

Today I become an aussie citizen. I’m excited and so are my kids. We have to go to our town hall, swer the pledge and then we get given a tree…....... A red gum apparently….It’s so cool….I will now be a three citizenship person…English, French and Australian…........I will write more when I come back…....

I’m doing this, on friday I become an australian citizen!!!It’s exciting….....

YAY!!! I am now Australian. Had my ceremony last night and got my certificate. I sung the national anthem, waved the Australian flag and pledged my allegiance to Australia. It was actually a lot of fun. I got a little stuffed koala and a medallion?!

I officially become an Australian citizen on the 10th of May, 2007. I originally wanted to become a citizen just so I could get HECS for uni, but now it has come to mean so much more. I guess it’s because for a long time I have felt that i am just on one big extended holiday. I cant remember when I actually started thinking I would continue to make my life here and the emotional leap to call this country my home (for now anyway!!!). sigh...but you know I will always be a NZer and this doesnt mean I have to pick a footy team either!! Going out for dinner with all my Aussie mates after the ceremony…Turkish restaurant, of course.

Australia has accepted me as one of their own…god help them. All I have to do now is wait for my letter to invite me to a ceremony. Cant believe this has happened so quickly.

I have my interview booked for Feb 9. Apparently you get a tree at the ceremony, I want tickets to the boxing day test. Although I actually want England to win the Ashes, I tire of seeing Australia win all the time.
