How to make a blog by danjanna

"Start Posting!"

How I did it: I wanted to start a blog to save my personal ideas and inspiration. I researched it a lot and tried a few free blog sites and eventually ended up having my site hosted by a friend of mine at urbanverb.com

I got a free template and have tweaked the design slightly and now it is up and running. I love it! I feel so organized now!

Lessons & tips: I had specific reasons for how I set up my blog the way I did, but here is some advice if you want to start one.

DON'T PAY FOR A BLOG, THERE ARE PLENTY OF FREE OPTIONS OUT THERE THAT ARE GREAT.

Resources: Best sites to get blogging today are:

tumblr.com - free and awesome!. newer and much cleaner than blogger. user interface is so easy. can post things from websites to your blog with the click of a bookmark button! Only drawback is that all posts are public, but that's not that big a deal.
wordpress.com - the most customizeable and professional blogging service out there. It is a little more advanced, so if you are looking for simple, go with tumblr.

there is also the widely used blogger.com, which is easy to get started, but I just don't like it as much as tumblr.com, but check it out for yourself...

How I did it: i've always wanted to make a blog, but i was afraid to show my feelings...one day i just registered it. i didn't use my real name but u kept writing down everything i wanted... nobody new this blog existed.. i was ashamed or something... i newer thought it was a good blog...but once, reading somebody's blog i made comment and there showed my blog's address... people came to my blog and WHOA they left soo positive comments... they liked it… Read how I did it…

    I love to read blogs, nerdy ones about urban policy and canadian politics and biology. So I was thinking yesterday, as I was slicing through some fish heads in the lab, why not? I picture… witty provincial insight into scientists minds, for layladies and men. Sweet pictures, interviews, videos and even volunteer opportunities for the environmental minded. Now I just need to build it.

    If the last few days are anything to indicate, I’ll wait a bit before marking this as done. Some of these things have a habit of making things more difficult then they first seem for me.

    I’m vauge on all there is about this but I can say that I’ve figured out what to do with it, just not so clear on the how just yet.

    I have new visions of a web page I plan to start (another goal) and to tack the blog to it would be great.

    One for me (and one for a group) 21 months ago

    I’ve thought about this before but I’m not sure about how interesting I am. But now that I’m starting a group in my area I was thinking that news and projects could be blogged about by the group. Then Since I’ll be teaching myself how to do it I might as well start one for me too. That way I can blog about my list and share the experiances with people.

    I made my 1st blog on blogger.com and it was easy, but the worst thing is when you can’t write anything on your blog!

    and getting visitors is not that easy too, the easiest way is to comment on others blogs.
