I underestimated my desire to be online. I just don’t have enough things to do offline without a driver’s license. I was fine for the weekend, but I gave in on Tuesday. I spent most of my time just reading or drawing or hanging out with my dog. It gets too repetitive. However, I have realized that it’s meaningless to waste my time checking emails and social networks every 5 minutes, and I’ve been correcting myself when I start to do that. So there is improvement, but for now I give up on this goal.

I spend way too much time on the internet (I’m talking 60-70 hour weeks). Sometimes I don’t even enjoy it, but I still stay on. I even get neurotic about keeping up with a bunch of different social networks. I really need to get away for a bit. Going cold turkey starting this Monday.

I plan to be away from the internet July 31 – August 14, about 2 weeks. I have lots of other plans to fill the time, so I’m guessing that it won’t be hard at all. Which is not to say that I won’t miss coming to 43things to post about my goals! But this takes me back to one of my goals: http://www.43things.com/things/view/2512493/spend-less-time-readingthinking-about-my-goals-and-more-time-actually-accomplishing-them
And that’s exactly what I plan to do during that timespan! So the good news is that I should have at least one “How I Did It” to post when the time is up!

Giving up the Internet for a period of time clears up a TON of time. I was able to actually be productive and I talked with people in person instead of online.

I was studying in greece for a few weeks. Didn’t speak the language or know where anything was. Still, I somehow managed to get around the “old-fashioned” way. What ever the hell that means.
One week in Los Angeles flanked by two in Portland, all sans internet connection. Certainly worth doing. I’m slowly but surely managing to pry myself away.

Last summer I lived on an island on the Great Barrier Reef for two weeks with no TV, computers, internet, cell phones, or really anything more electronic than a generator-powered light and a gas stove. It was wonderful! I have been searching for a way to apply that experience to my everyday life ever since.
