“fixed” is such a strong word. my TMJ is under control. it works for now.
How to get my TMJ fixed
How I did it: For a couple months, I was suffering from headaches and eventually, I
noticed that my jaw was tense and achy. I stopped drinking coffee,
thinking that the caffeine was dehydrating and adding to the tension
but symptoms didn't change. Eventually, after about a month, my jaw
started clicking and popping and the headaches were getting perpetually worse. I had a massage therapist help it a bit but symptoms continued. Finally, my jaw hurt so bad, I had shooting pain in my ear, tingling on the side and top of my head, intense headaches and an inability to stay focused because the pain was so bad. I ended up popping 8 Advil for a
couple of days until I found out that I had TMJ. My husband has an
acupuncture degree (though rarely practices because we own coffee
houses now) and i know that acupuncture is notoriously helpful in
curing TMJ, so I asked him to give me acupuncture at home one evening
when the pain was unbearable. Instantly, there was relief in the top of my head and at the hinge of my jaw; the next morning, i was still achy but over the course of 5 days -- all of my symptoms subsided. Two week went by and I started to experience shooting ear pain again and had my
husband treat me once again. The next morning, there was no more pain and I haven't had any symptoms of TMJ in a month. I know i occasionally grind my teeth at night still which may mean that i get a mouth guard
eventually.
Lessons & tips: I would suggest finding an acupuncturist to help in relieving TMJ
symptoms. Additionally, my husband found that "ear acupuncture" was
particularly helpful. This is where they put several needles in and
around your ear (not inside). slightly painful in some spots but i was
willing to deal with it if it meant that i wouldn't have anymore TMJ

For real…
I’ve been taking acupuncture for stress and depression. As I was walking out of the clinic one day after a treatment, both sides of my jaw cracked and I haven’t had a problem since.
Probably was my body being twisted out of shape from stress.
Can anyone else relate to this? I believe all of my TMJ problems are due to nail biting. I need to stop the nail biting. My pain and headaches have been increasing more and more over the last two years. 15 years of nail biting and now I am seriously suffering from this TMJ. Anyone else have any habitual mouth habits that may have caused yours. Think about it carefully. Biting nails, lips, shifting mouth, clenching, grinding, chewing gum, etc.
jessi. just woke up from a bizarre dream.
because I always thought that this was just in my head. I’ve been fortunate in that it hasn’t progressed as far as Alisha’s, but I am concerned that if I don’t do anything about it it will continue to worsen.
And that would not be pleasant.
How exactly do I get my TMJ fixed?
From the age of 13, pills have been the only thing to relieve my chronic TMJ pain. Surgery is available to (hopfully) correct the problem and I am in the process of preparing for it, which includes seeing an orthodontist about braces, as well as a pain management specialist (though I’ve seen many and little help has come of it). I just want my jaw to be normal again in the sense I’d like to smile, laugh, talk, and sing to the radio without feeling like my jaw will collapse or fall off because it feels tired and over-worked. I will be 19-years-old on June 20th, and I can’t help but wonder whether I will be on pills for the rest of my life in efforts to curve the pain of my jaw and face muscles. Currently, I pop seventeen and a half pills every day, all for jaw pain and other jaw-related problems. I need a solution to the pills and pain, and I sincerely hope surgery is it.
