How I did it: found out when earth hour was and then convinced my roommates to drop their homework and turn off all of our lights and appliances... then we spent the whole night giggling and running around in the dark and playing games. what was supposed to be an hour... went on all night! How I did it: i turned off all my lights and looked for candles beforehand to light. i learned how to light a lighter and successfully lit the candles. i stayed in my room by myself and lost myself in thought and relaxation and just ... sat at my computer. it did me well. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I listened to my iPOD most of the time. I also texted people so I wouldnt get bored. &I sang! haha. Being in the dark for 1hr isnt that bad. When your with someone or talking to someone. Earth Hour made me feel good about saving more energy, e\ven if it was just one hour. Read how I did it…
flames_only It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.
How I did it: First I registered on the earthHour site n then when the time came I switched off all non-essential appliances and lights.. that good hour was filled with deep conversation as the candles burned away. Read how I did it…

How I did it: Turned off the lights, pc, tv and even my fishies had to go to sleep a little earlier. I pretty much always have either the tv or my pc on, so it was kinda weird not to have either. I just slouched on my couch and pondered over life and friendships and some documentary I saw recently. It's really amazing how hooked we are on electricity, that we keep checking the clock to see if an hour has passed without our precious TV or Internet. Read how I did it…

Comp was off just in time y’know, arrgh! and I am actually really grateful that I participated at all. Probably my subconscious kicked my arse…
coz I was, erm, happily wandering through tainted Shadewood with Severus Schlagdenschrat, my dwarfen sorcerer. Coz, y’know, new Complie’s got a good graphics card and suddenly Shadewood runs smoothly on highest settings, and I had to test that, and the real reason is probably that I am afraid of having to find Real Work in Real Life and rather game…
But suddenly I decided I needed to upgrade the dwarf and couldn’t find the cheat program on Comp (WFT?!?) and so had to get online to download it, and for some reason I clicked on the news feed which new Firefox for some reason provides me with, something I almost never do, and there I saw the headline about the first lights going out over in China. or sumwhere
Heh, I am really happy I didn’t miss it! Last electric thing I did: Called me Mum, and to my big surprise she 1. didn’t know anything about Earth Hour, even though she’s the one who watches News all the time, and reads the paper. That’s sad. No Earth Hour in Germany. And 2. she said: thanks for calling! I’ll turn off the lamp, I got candles burning, and I’ll even turn out the TV, coz I’m going to bed anyway.
Me, I cleared my room a bit—there’s nothing like candlelight cleaning! Dust is invisible, spots and stains vanish, everything looks golden and fine. <|8)
And then I went to bed, too. No drumming, no singing. But I am glad. If it hadn’t been for Earth Hour I would have played on for hours. But I fell asleep at once and am sure that I needed it.
Also perfect, coz daylight saving time has come to us at last, ARRGH, and I gotta get used to sleeping earlier.
And this was the exciting story of Vetch’s Earth Hour 2009. Stay tuned for Earth Hour 2010: will Vetch sleep through it again?

mom and i turned off all the lights and went to the meeting house to sit in worship by candlelight for the hour. another woman met us there—we decided to do it with only two hours notice so we didn’t get any other takers.
while praying, decided to make this a weekly event in my life. in addition to, or instead of prayer or silence, things I can do by candlelight are reading(?), listening to books or music on my iPod, walking my dogs. what else?
houseofleaves is all sorts of behind.
Earth Hour was a nice break… I tried to convince the rest of the house to join me, and managed to get the lights out at least, but I think they were still watching TV. Can’t win ‘em all, I guess.
I ended up writing for a little while, then listened to an audiobook in the dark when my eyes couldn’t take the candlelight any longer.
What did you do during your hour?

I have told my family about this but it was met with skepticism. But I did keep my cool which is good for my goal ” Being a Nicer Person”. Good luck everyone.
I almost missed it—but only almost. Still 24 min to go. <|8)
P.S. The website of Earth Hour wants us to make photos and/or videos of the event. I think that’s a bit absurd…

We’re having an Earth Hour Party. There will be a bonfire, marshmallows, a few drinks, and some star gazing. Should be lots of fun and good for the Earth. I hope a lot of people participate; I love it when people come together for a cause!
