I’m not sure why I love Coffee shops so much, i guess I just get a warm feeling when i’m in one. It’s like, No matter what the weather is like outside, or what’s going on, a coffee shop is so serene and comforting to me.

Trying to start a Coffee House in small town to reach out to those who do not go church, not to recruit but to have a safe place to inquire about life and Christ.

I desperately need an expert advice, from the persons with a certain years of experience.

I live in a town of 400.000 people and recently COSTA COFFEE opened its first coffee bar.

I plan to open the similar without coping the mighty COSTA.

If you could give me some your advice or whatever on this topic

I GOT PLANS

I'd like to give my community a place to hang out. 13 months ago

I have been a coffee shop rat since I was 15 (I’m almost 30 now), whether it be local coffee houses, late night Denny’s, anything that can serve up a cup of dark, rich caffeine-laden goodness. I come from a town that has so many local coffee shops that big corporate names like Starbucks could never get a foothold.

Now I’ve moved down to Florida, and there seems to be nowhere to hang out. Everyone is in such a rush down here. Starbucks is just about the only brand here, and they don’t seem to really want you hanging out. All of the chairs and tables are small and uncomfortable, and they really seem to rush you out the door. The place I used to hang out, Maxwells Brew in Toledo, OH, was like 90% regulars every day. People who held Maxwells as a comfortable default. “I have no plans, but I wanna get out of the house…well, I know that most if not all of my friends are hanging out at Maxwells, or will be there at some point today, so I’ll go there!”

I want to open the kind of place where people want to hang out for a while. Aiming for the younger college crowd, from the just-out-of-high-school all the way up to “Almost done with my Masters”, but I don’t want it to be JUST for studying. I want regulars, people who enjoy meeting up with their friends and hanging out every day. I don’t want to make a fortune and become rich off of my store, I just want to open a place that people like to go to.

My plan would be to not only serve coffee and coffee-based drinks (espressos, cappuccinos, mochas, etc), but also have a beer and wine license so that in the evening you can have a beer or a glass of wine with the food you had just ordered off of my menu of sandwiches, simple burgers, and side snacks. I don’t want to be the coffee shop that only serves muffins, cookies, and bagels. I want hummus and pita, grape leaves, salads, etc. Healthy food options as well as some fried delectables.

Another thing I was considering, but I almost think it would be too much in one place…setting up a corner of the coffee shop to be a sort of used bookstore. There’s a coffee shop down in Bowling Green, OH called Grounds For Thought that is almost 1/3 coffee shop, 2/3 bookstore. It’s just something that I’m considering. People could come in, hang out for a while, read a book, then when they’re done, sell it to me, and buy another book. It would NOT be the basis of the business though…more like a little bit of side fun.

My only doubts in the whole thing are A) I’ve never run a business before and wouldn’t know the first thing about it, and B) I honestly don’t know that there is a market for this sort of thing in my area. Word around the city is people have tried and failed. But then again, I’ve heard some of the stories, and I can see why they failed. But I’m fairly determined, and this is something I’d really like to do.

Java Bean 16 months ago

I dont like coffee very much myself (but java chip frappachinos from starbucks are the bomb!). But I have always loved the feeling of being in a coffee shop. I have no idea why, but I just do.
So I want to either work at Starbucks or own my own coffee shop.

Working my job as a barista has changed my mind forever. Its a horribley stressful enviroment and I cant stand it. Maybe if I were to open my own it would be different but for now this goal is gone.
