marathoner452 is a special education teacher at a school called "hope."
My school’s been having a lot of problems lately. We’ve been short 2 teachers (2nd and 3rd grade), the health department almost shut us down a couple of weeks ago (mold on the third floor, no water in some of the bathrooms, freezing cold classrooms), and the charter organization in Chicago seems more concerned about whether the kids are wearing a tie than in whether they’re actually learning. I could go on and on.
So I decided to spread positive energy by mailing Christmas cards to all the teachers. I bought the cards from a local bookstore and mailed them from my favorite coffeeshop. I figure mailing them takes more effort than sticking them in the teacher’s boxes at school and therefore means more.
And it’s working. I’ve had at least a half-dozen teachers come up and tell me that just made their day. We all need to feel appreciated.
