took it in college, lost most of it. It’s nice to know a language that’s not common… :)

i have a little over a month to relearn russian to the best of my ability. my mom and i are leaving for russia july 2nd and i want to be able to at least hold a conversation with my family…bonus if i can strike up a conversation with a cute guy;)
I should just start talking russian around the house, but i am so used to english. plus, i feel so stupid when i speak russian…nothing i say comes out right.
I knew it in eighth grade. But I haven’t studied or spoken it for almost 3 years now. I don’t remember much anymore, and I’d like to re-learn it.
I did learn Russian in school and was bad even then. But at least I could make myself understood. Now all I can remember are a few phrases and the writing. There should be plenty of room for improvement, shouldn’t it?
i’ve got a good grade at GCSE Russian, but never thought i was very good. i can still remember the alphabet, and a few words/phrases.
so, which books/cds to get? too many choices! and i don’t want an entire book on the cyrilic alphabet :)
i’ve gone for these for now:
a guide – http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0071431772/
a reference – http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0198603800/
a dictionary – http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0425160130/
all for 23 quid. mmm. amazon!
got Rosetta Stone, but cant find time to work on it with out kids wanting to get on computer and play games. need to find time to lock myself away and work on it. Also talked to some friends who are getting rusty with their Russian and trying to arrance a “chat day” over coffee or something.
