I’d like to ultimately gift/sell/donate a good portion of what we’d like to party with. I really just want a house filled with only the items I really need/love use. We’ve collected so much junk over the years. 2 weeks ago

Spring is rising in me and I want excess stuff outta here! I’ve gathered a bunch of jewelry to send another box to my favorite cousin. I’ve continued to sort photos as I scan them into my computer. The sorting isn’t hard, just time-consuming. You would think that jewelry and photos wouldn’t take up that much space, and in my home they do. I also think that the idea of organizing them is at times overwhelming. I told Jessy years ago that when I started organizing my photos to be happy that I was getting to a point that my home was in deep-declutter mode. Sad to say, that is not so. My house is organized and I have too much of a lot of things. 2 months ago

There is progress! We have carried so much out but it still seemed like a lot was laying around. Then I realized it was because no one is putting things away where they belong! Cluttered floors and empty shelves make an unhappy momma! So I am teaching them to put things away and they still don’t do it on their own accord but they are pitching in when I start delegating task to put things away. They are pitching in without complaint! I think most of the complaining done before was because they were unsure of where to put things. Now there is pretty much a home for everything. Pretty much! There is still some decluttering that can be done. Unfortunately my bedroom has become a catch all for boxes of holiday decor but only because the shed has been leaking and the new heating takes away our storage closet space. :( But no one sees my room. The boxes are against a wall and out of our way. The room is still functional so it will just have to stay that way until we can move or solve our leaky shed problem.
Really thinking with daily work this house can be the best if can be by Christmas. Would be nice to start a new year with no mess! 5 months ago

continuing to declutter my home most every day. Last month I focused on the front hall and I just now realized that it was a good thing, since I will have guests coming by during the upcoming holidays, and I would like the first impression to be of space and beauty.
I’m reading a(nother) declutter book that has sparked a response in me. It doesn’t start with “get rid of every thing you don’t need or want”. Instead it starts with asking you to enumerate what you have. That very act is allowing me to release things I have too much of and give them to charities and people who can use them and I haven’t even begun to actually write the items down! Of course if I complete this book and the actions to my satisfaction, I will declutter the book, too.
This month I’m focusing on the pantry and then the kitchen.
So, this last year I’ve completed redecorating the living room, the dining room and the front hall which significantly reduced the clutter in those 3 areas. I decluttered the downstairs bath a few weeks ago. I’m starting on the pantry and then the kitchen. That leaves only my bedroom, office and back hall on the ground floor. I’m slow, most of the time with the process, because I don’t want to take on more of a challenge than I’m ready for.
In the meantime, I’ve stacked clothes for winter on my blanket chest and after I wear an item and it gets tossed in the laundry, it goes into my bureau. I’m also trying on clothes and if I don’t like the look or they don’t fit I’m pulling them out, laundering them and sending them off to charity. I have one dress that I’m debating about. It’s a dress for funerals and it seems appropriate for a 60-year old-woman to wear to a funeral except I’m only age 60 by calendar not in my head or how I feel. I’ll come to the right decision in a few days.
What fun decluttering is! I like the empty space. 6 months ago

All the furniture has been moved to find what is hiding underneath. One small section of floor to scrub before I lay the rugs back down. Clean the rugs. Redust everything with polisher. Clean the fabric of the couch and the curtains. Then one large bin and one small box of things to sort through that didn’t make it out on the first cut. A lot of it is paper clutter. A bit of it actually belongs downstairs. Most of it goes back to the kid’s rooms! All in all it was a garbage bag full of stuff that was carried out from the living room. I could probably stand to go through the books again before I call it complete-complete! 6 months ago

with decluttering has been my front hall/foyer for the past couple of weeks. I have been painting the wood trim in the hall and I completely cleared the lower cabinets with doors in the hall. I have books there and I organized them to where I can be proud of how they look. I patched a small nail hole where I had a wall box/bulletin board. When I get paint, I’ll put all the box/bulletin boards back up. I plan to get paint today. Though I cleared all the things out of the lower cabinets some of it is in my office awaiting their trip to charity thrift stores.
edit, I added this photo of 2 grandkids as they are painting in my front hall. 6 months ago

decluttering almost daily for months. The trouble is I haven’t really been seeing much benefit because most of it has been what is behind doors and in drawers.
Today, I decided that I would start whole room decluttering because I can appreciate the space left and the tidy result. So, I started with the smallest room in the house, my downstairs bath. First, I took down the lace curtains that go over my bathroom shelves and the matching shower curtain. Then, I read a couple of chapters in my current book before returning to the shelves. I tossed everything I haven’t used in the past year (except lotions, unopened ointments, etc.) Next, I cleaned shelves, and baskets. I made labels for the baskets and changed where I keep the hand towels, washcloths and bathmats. Then, I had lunch before my dryer was ready to spit out my curtains. I put up one over the shelves and took a break reading and having a Fresca. Finally, I went back to the bath and hung the last curtain, clean the cabinet under the sink, emptied the trash, bleached and swished the toilet and now I have a clean, decluttered downstairs bath. Yay! 6 months ago

Today I took the time to steam all of my clothes and put all my clothes away that had been lying around after coming back from an international trip. I had been procrastinating on that, but it feels so good that it’s finally done! 7 months ago

I managed to put together the new-to-me antique Jenny Lind beds in the guest room and make them up. They look very nice. In the process I’ve decluttered that room, and plan to attack the closet in the room. I’ve also cleared much of a bookcase in my back hall, and much unwanted decor. 11 months ago

The final bit of de-cluttering I’ve managed so far is to clear off the single bed in my study. Why is it that when one or two things appear where they don’t belong it’s so easy to add more and more? I don’t think I’ve seen that bed for months, probably not since Christmas!
Anyway everything that was piled/thrown onto it has been put away and for a few hours I had a lovely clear space – but not for long.
Now I’m piling it up again – but this time with mounds of stuff destined for the upcoming car boot fair/summer fete/charity shops. This is the start of a MIGHTY de-cluttering operation… 11 months ago

I store the birdseed and peanuts in plastic tubs which have been stacked by the door in the conservatory. Although convenient, it’s not ideal, partly because they clutter the space but more importantly because it’s not good to store the peanuts especially at high temperatures – and it can get very hot in there when the doors are closed.
B suggested we think about outside storage for the bird food. Last weekend saw one of the many price discounts at a certain local DIY store and now we have an ideal-sized waterproof and hopefully squirrel-proof storage cupboard tucked around the side of the house in the shade which takes all the bird food and related bits and pieces.

By having a major shuffle around of various bits and pieces I have created more storage space and am storing things more efficiently.
A double cupboard in the kitchen housed an eclectic collection of stuff – mostly not kitchen-related. Now its contents have been sorted and moved to new, more appropriate cupboards and the result is an empty kitchen cupboard that is available to take all the things that ought to be in the kitchen but were previously dotted about all over the place. We had been looking for another cupboard for the utility room to take all this paraphernalia and now we don’t need one. Fantastic! 11 months ago

I have entirely too much stuff. I had to move back home after 7 years so I could get my head straight and get my life in order, so I have all my things crammed into two tiny bedrooms with two tiny closets at my mom’s house. I’ve managed to get rid of 2 big bags of clothes, shoes, etc. I have some furniture, an old tv, and a few other things I want to get rid of, but I am totally overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I have. I feel like a hoarder.. 12 months ago

- I’ve decluttered the undersink cupboard and the utility in general. It looks much better and is much easier to use. Now we need to find a cupboard of the right size to squeeze in there to create yet more storage space.
- I’ve decluttered the greenhouse. Again. It hasn’t been used for over a year and had become the proverbial dumping ground. Now it’s organised and tidy(ish) once more – and it has things growing in it!
- And I’ve just finished decluttering the conservatory. What was yet another dumping ground is now looking really good! It needs some new flooring and a new small table and chairs but even without those things it’s so much better and a pleasure to be in. I’m very pleased with it and will shortly be celebrating by disappearing into it with a good book and a glass….
Pic shows part of the greenhouse pre the decluttering. It shows the best, most tidy part. At least the chaos in this picture is gardening-related: out of sight of the lens was soooo much worse. But oh, does it look better now! :)12 months ago

the patio count? I spent some time earlier this week doing just that. After the work we’ve had done in the garden the patio had turned into a dumping ground. Now it’s clear again :) 12 months ago
