I’m working full steam on this goal. I cleared out all the dust mites under my bed. removed all wall portraits so that change them up and bring new life into my room. I went through my closet and cleared out clothing that I can’t stand wearing anymore. It’s amazing how clothing has such a way of bringing memories back. It felt good because some of the clothing that I got rid of was in good condition, but just brought back ho-hum or sad memories of the last time I wore them, that I can;t look at them anymore. I don’t like the way they make me feel. So I did the best thing I could do, remove them from my closet and give them to charity. Now I have new room for new clothes that i can wear to have better memories in. I wounder if I am the only one that remembers every piece of clothing that one wears during a moment in there life. Like, I can remember eaxtly what wore on a particualr date with an ex or something. and those clothings, harmless like a t-shirt or something just bring those memories of what a jerk or how sad something was that the best thing to do is never to look at them again
How to declutter my home
How I did it: I took 3 days off work, hired a skip and just went for it. I was astounded at how much I found that I'd forgotten I owned, and I was equally astounded at how much I spent on handbags I haven't used in years and shoes I'm ashamed to say I'd never even worn. I had early starts, late nights and barely left the house, because I knew that if I stopped, I'd probably keep putting this off again, and again, and I was sick of living with clutter.

the books that I read and shelved away upstairs.
I have a method. All books that I’m reading or haven’t yet read are on a shelf downstairs, beside my reading chair or beside my bed. Once I’ve read them I shelve them upstairs. Once the upstairs shelf is full I take them and sell them and donate whatever is left over.
We are using our windfall to go towards getting a sitter, and then we’ll go out on a date for dinner and a movie.
We’re really looking forward to it!

Walter reminded me that we are just over a month away from our annual apartment inspection time. I need to make time to declutter!

I need to sort out clothing and donate, sell or store away.

Some of you will get this and some won’t but when there is order around me, there is a sense of calm within me that allows me the ambition to tackle bigger things. If I can get rid of the clutter and find that order, look out world, here I come!
SOS2009 is loving this site!
I am having the weekend from hell. I’ve hired a skip and taken a couple of days off work, with the aim of clearing out cupboards, closets, drawers and my garage so that I don’t feel overwhelmed everytime I walk through my front door. Today is going slowly (which would be why I’m on this site and not sorting out my shoes – next on my list. However, I have already filled one skip and have had to order another…who needs so much stuff? And yes, I am recycling whatever I can! Okay, fun over. Back to my shoes :-(
Shelley Happy New Year!!!
I finally was able to find a set of flat files (on CraigsList) to store all my paper and mat board, and finished work on paper. Made to 160 mile round trip to pick them up a couple of weeks ago. That, of course, was only the start of the “adventure.”
I then made a base out of 2×6’s and 4×4’s (all wood from other projects) and attached some massive 5” wheels (also reused from another project) to the corners of the base to make the files mobile. They weigh a ton without anything in them. It felt great to be able to build the base without having to buy anything! Hope to complete the transfer of papers/mat to the files this week so I can move the day bed from that room and move the office in there away from the general noise of the house. I am making progress—that’s the important thing.
